Edge of Tomorrow by Freya Barker

Arrow’s Edge MC #3

 I do love a good book and know that when I sit down with one written by Freya Barker I will be in for a treat – and – what a treat this book was! I love this author, this series, and the characters in this book!

 What I liked:

* Brick: a good man that has done time, seems tough on the outside but has a softness for those he loves and cares about. His MC provides him brothers, a family, and a place he calls home.

* Lisa: a good woman that has experienced much. She raised her daughter and now is raising her grandchildren. She is loving, kind, acerbic, a bit tough, cautious, and also soft in the center for those she cares about and loves.

* Ezrah & Kiara: Lisa’s grandchildren are opposites and they have experienced more than they should have so early in life. They definitely add to the story.

* The interaction between Brick and Lisa – witty, quick, caring, kind, and eventually loving

* The way Brick and Lisa work together to make things right for their grandchildren

* Finn: Brick’s tiny grandson – how he comes into Brick’s life is sad but it is also provides hope to more than one

* The real feel of the main characters – neither was perfect, but they were perfect for one another

* The MC members and their significant others…so good to see them again.

* The way the MC members pull together and achieve all that they do

* Wondering if Gonzales has a mate

* The writing, story, mystery, thrills, and chills within the story

* The smiles & sadness + joy and sorrow = great balance to the story

* Knowing there will be more in the future and wondering who will be next up to find their HEA

 What I did not like:

* The bad guys…and what they did

* Having to say goodbye and wait till the next book is ready to read

 Did I enjoy this book? Definitely

Would I read more by this author? Without a doubt

Would I read more in this series? As soon as I can

Cold Silence by Freya Barker

Silence Book 4

~ Excellent addition to the series ~ I know when I pick up one of Freya’s books I will be satisfied when I read the last page ~ Couldn’t put it down and am eager to read what comes next ~

What I liked: * Clem Tanek: business owner, mechanic, brother, relocated to firehouse after his shop burned down, calm, wise, supportive, crochets, excellent listener, stable, attracted to Tess

* Tessa “Tess” Androtti: single parent, homicide detective, divorced from abusive husband, new in Silence, has teenage sons, honest, open, dedicated to her family and friends, attracted to Clem

* Clem’s interaction with the teenager he caught stealing on his business property made me know he was a good man

* The open honest way Clem and Tessa communicated with one another and with others

* The maturity of both Tess and Clem and their positive body images and senses of self-worth – watching their relationship develop was a joy and so much fun – I know they will be happy together

* The murder mystery of who killed Ryan Wells, how the clues are followed to solve the case, take the bad guys down, and bring justice to Ryan’s mother

* Remi and his brother Linc: typical teens and brothers who were raised right by Tess

* Mouse: dog adopted by Clem that was perfect for him

* Catching up with some of the previous characters in the series while wondering which character(s) will star in the next book of the series

* All of it really except…

What I didn’t like: * Thinking about the damage done to the teens and the way they were exploited

* Having to wait for the next book

Did I like this book? Yes

Would I read more in by this author? Definitely

However, just when she’s up to her eyeballs working on a recent violent murder, Remi gets himself into trouble again. Trouble that appears to be connected to her investigation. Lifetime resident of Silence, Clem Tanek, couldn’t be more surprised to find one of the new, pretty detective’s sons trespassing and stealing property from behind his auto repair shop. Despite his social awkwardness when interacting with the boy’s mother a few months ago, Clem can handle her kid just fine. Remi’s skills and interest in vehicles provide an opportunity to try and get the kid back onto the right track, without involving law enforcement. It also offers Clem a second chance with the new detective, hoping to make up for that disastrous first encounter. But their path isn’t an easy one. Both have significant baggage, as one would expect from lives already half lived, and adapting to change can be a challenge. Particularly, when dealing with teenagers which, in this case, means wading into dangerous waters for both Tessa and Clem.

Guilty Silence by Freya Barker

Silence #3

~ Secrets are dark, twisty, heavy things that can weigh a person down ~ at what point, if ever, is it better to share a secret than to continue to carry it alone ~

What I liked:

* Bee Choi: owner of Strange Brew, baker and cook, grew up in Silence, returned to Silence after moving away with her family for a while, interesting backstory, supportive, caring, kind, generous, good friend and Savvy’s best friend, attracted to Hugo

* Hugo Alexander: Chief Deputy of Silence, widow, single father to teenage son, focused, strong, protective, knows what he wants and he wants Bee

* Carson: Hugo’s son, senior in high school, dating Tatum, responsible, nearly killed in a previous book, responsible, hard worker

* Ragnar: rambunctious puppy adopted by Bee

Being a fly on the wall watching the romance between Bee and Hugo develop and feeling theywere perfect for and with one another

* Lola & Emmett: didn’t’ see much of them but good friends and part of the Strange Brew team

* Savvy: Sheriff of Silence, pregnant, engaged to Nate who is father of Tatum, daughter of previous sheriff, starred in a previous book of the series as did her father and his new wife

* The plot, pacing, setting and writing that had me guessing what would happen next and why it was happening as the tension mounted

* Finding out why there was a target on Bee’s back and who put it there – then hoping that the threat would be dealt with efficiently

* The twist of who Bee’s father might be and the part he played in this story

* Catching up with characters from the two previous book and meeting characters I hope to see in the future books of the series

What I didn’t like: * The situation that put the target on Bee’s back and those that were out to end her life

* Thinking about secrets and the damage they can do…then wondering at what point it is better to share a secret than keep it

Did I like this book? Yes

Would I read more in this series? Definitely

~ Another superb story by one of my favorite authors – Couldn’t put it down ~

What I liked: * Savvy Colter: Sheriff of Silence, intelligent, strong, resourceful, excellent leader, understaffed, has suffered more than one loss, may get a second chance at love with her HS boyfriend-Nate

* Nate Gaines: single parent of Tatum, business owner, good with his hands, recently moved back to Silence, has a difficult backstory, has a second chance in Silence and with Savvy

* Tatum: recently lost her mother, grieving, musical, fourteen, bullied then befriended by Carson, has a difficult situation to deal with

* Carson Alexander: son of Silence’s Chief Deputy, sixteen, respectful, caring, attracted to Tatum, deals with a difficult situation along with Tatum

* Catching up with characters from the previous book

* Learning what happened between Savvy and Nate originally and how it impacted them in the present

* The wisdom and maturity of both main characters and their openness with one another

* The supporting characters and knowing that some will have books of their own and that Hugh & Bess will be starring in book three

* Being able to thoroughly dislike the bad guys and wish Karma would deal with them

* The murder mysteries and the way they were solved

* That I became immersed in the story and cared about the outcome

* All of it really except…

What I didn’t like: * Who and what I was meant not to like

* Thinking about what might have motivated those who committed crimes in this story

* Having to wait for the next book in the series

Would I read more in this series? Definitely

Finding Silence by Freya Barker

Silence Book 1

~ An author I love is starting a new series and I am EXCITED to read the first book in her Silence Series. Every book I have read by Freya Barker has been a keeper! ~

What I liked: * That the main characters are a bit older and easy for me to relate to though these are still twenty years younger than I am.

*  Phyllis “Phil” Dubois/Wood: mid-forties, looking for normal, music writer, was in a band she headlined, single, fun, levelheaded, someone I would like as a friend, attracted to Brant

* Brant Colter: retired sheriff, widow, father, a bit grumpy, highly regarded, honest, has several rescue animals, good friend, had a health scare a year ago, protective, attracted to Phil

* Watching the relationship grow between Phil & Brant

* Savvy: sheriff, Brant’s daughter, lost her fiancé a few years previously, strong, independent, intriguing

* Diesel: a Dandruff, or Great Dane Mastiff mixed breed rescue dog that was eventually taken in by Phil

* The mystery of who is behind discrediting Phil in the media and then escalates

* The plot, pacing, setting, and writing

* That there were no loose ends at the end of the story though I am curious about what kind of music Phil writes and whether she sang or was on instruments

* Knowing that there will be another book and that Savvy will be one of the main lead characters

* All of it really except…

What I didn’t like

* Who and what I was meant not to like

* The reason behind the smear campaign that became physical toward the end

* Thinking about why some people are or are not honest/evil

* Having to wait for the next book
