My Freyfest / Freysblot / Freyfaxi celebration 2023
Freyfaxi/Freyfest is celebrated on the day that marks the halfway point between the summer solstice and the autumn equinox. This year, this day will fall exactly on the 7th of August.
On this day, we celebrate the first harvest and collect the first fruits of our labour this year. Therefore, it is also a day to especially honour fertility gods such as Freyr and to give thanks to him.
Since this is my first year of consistently celebrating these pagan holidays, i really want to make an effort of making lots of handmade stuff and spending a lot of time celebrating and honouring what i’ve achieved and what i have (both physically and mentally).
And since Frey is one of the main gods i’m working with, i really want to dedicate this whole day to him! So here’s a little list of my plans for this day:
making a little wreath to lay on my altar 🌻 (e.g. one like this)
collecting some wheat and making wheat dolls/dollies 🌾 (likely following this pattern or this pattern)
harvesting some herbs & flowers 💐
baking bread or cake 🍞🥧
making an embroidered altar cloth 🧶
Materials i’ll need:
a wreath base & materials for making the wreath (e.g. sunflower heads, wheat, berries, etc)
wheat & wheat dolly patterns
ingredients for the bread
materials for the altar cloth
