Okay I think I was looking at the right post that was tagged anti-Yatori but how was that hate and why are you getting crap for it? You were polite and you weren't bashing the ship? I believe you just said "the romance just feels forced to me"
It’s because Yatori is the most popular ship in the fandom. Anyone who doesn’t like/ship Yatori is usually met with comments like these--In fact, I’ve had people try to explain to me why I should ship it (and I still don’t even after watching the anime three times and reading all of the manga that is currently out).
Apparently there has been a history of “ship wars” within the fandom, so a lot of Yatori shippers get self-conscious that any non-Yatori people are trying to send hate for shipping Yatori. Which...I’m not, and I will apologize to anyone who takes it that way.
But at the same time, a lot of them get so defensive that anything that hints at, “I don’t ship Yatori” is shot down as hate...when it isn’t. Yatori has its faults and deserves legitimate, constructive criticism. Like ANY ship (including but not limited to Yatone, which I ship myself), there are problematic parts about it--and that is okay. That is realistic. Nothing is perfect. It incites discussion, which any fandom needs. It’s good to talk about this stuff, and as fans we should politely criticize anything we find problematic.
I don’t think Yatori shippers are wrong for shipping Yatori. Nor are they bad people. But I just don’t ship it. And, honestly, yes, I am annoyed at this ship because I feel the fandom over-hypes it and that it’s rushed/extremely forced in the story itself, and that the ship works best as a non-romantic relationship. But that’s just my opinion, which ultimately is only ONE opinion in the fandom and should not be taken so harshly.
Sorry for the long reply. Just...agh.
