seal of the day: ringed seal
they live in the sub arctic zone. their average lifespan is 40 years. as they are common ice seals, life has gotten harder for them due to climate change and global warming. they have 1inch thick claws on their front flippers to break thru ice! what do u think of the ringed seal?
seal of the day: caspian seal!
these small seals are found in the brackish caspian sea. these seals are currently endangered :( a caspian seal adult eats about a metric ton of fish per year!!! woah!!! they dive shallow and for small periods of time, usually only abt 160ft for 1 minute. they have pollution, natural predators, and viruses to blame for their decreasing population. they decrease by 3-4% every year :(( do u like the caspian seal?

they are related to the crabeater seals, weddell seals, and leopard seals. they only live in the subarctic and weirdly on the southern coast of australia. their eyes are 7cm in diameter. they have the shortest fur out of any other seal. the ross seal is the least well known, as well as the smallest and least abundant of pinnipeds.

seal of the day: ribbon seal !
these seals are so cool because of their patterned coat. the strips of circular white wrapped around the general black fur coat is so friggin cool!!! this striped pattern only develops after 4 years. they live in the arctic parts of the pacific ocean. they r also ice seals! ribbon seal pups look like harp seal pups so they were hunted for their fur, however since ribbon seals are more individual creatures and don’t form herds, they were harder to capture. (yippee!!!) these seals are predicted to survive global warming, isn’t that cool? what do u think of the ribbon seal? :3
seal of the day: LADOGA RINGED SEAL!!!!! i LOVEEEE these seals so much. they might be my favorite. they’re a gorgeous dark brown/black color and the video of the pup eating fish is simply the best thing ever. these seals are from NW russia. they actually evolved from the last ice age 11,000 years ago!! please love them as much as i do <3 <3 <3
seal of the day: HARP SEAL!!! i love these seals. so so much. they have the cutest pups imo. they’re native to the arctic and atlantic ocean. they can live over 30 years in the wild. harp seals have pure black eyes perfect for swimming in dark icy waters. and yes, if i was a seal, i would be a harp seal pup.
seal of the day: leopard seal. now full disclosure i’m scared shitless of these seals. they’re known to be very territorial and are carnivorous- they even eat other seals :<…. they straight up look like dinosaurs?! a newborn leopard seal pup averages around 66 lbs! let me know what u think of these seals
seal of the day: bearded seal!
named after their abundance of white whiskers! when the whiskers are dry they curl and look very beard-ish. these ice seals are found in and near the arctic. they have square front flippers. these seals can be up to 948 lbs!!! bearded seals are prey to mostly polar bears, but can also be hunted by orcas and even walruses as pups (although rare) :( and yes- walruses are part of pinnipeds along with eared seals! pinnipeds are thought to have developed 25 to 27 MILLION years ago! what are ur thoughts on the bearded seal?
