So I started working on my poetry collection this past month and it's taken everything I have not to share what I've written so far but I've finally broken..
Friday Couscous
blue, white geometric
triangles grace the glazed
bowl hugging the mounds and
mounds of fluffy grains the
color of my camel
skin sandals.
small plates of slata in
vivid reds and green encircle
that Sahara double of a
dish. and puckering pickled
assortments make my mouth
froth.
zayneb tucks her rose
marked skirt between brown
knees and lays by my side.
the ancient oils she smears to
her temples drift in
aromatic ripples.
“Say Bismillah” she whispers
with split lips.
