3 MINUTES AGO: Trump GOES WILD After Seth Meyers RIPPED Apart His Love L...
Friday review on a sunday night. Why not, we’ll combine it with goal setting.
I’m now at the point where all the work I did to get ahead at the start of the term has run out. I am on schedule, which is scary because I know how easy it is to get behind. I also know that I only need to keep on schedule for two weeks before reading week and I can get ahead again.
The personal goal this week is to get back to three bottles of water a day. I started it last week then ran out of steam and scheduling issues. To the point where on Friday I had a dehydration headache, the very thing I was trying to avoid. Oh well. We start again, and tomorrow we come up with a better plan for Tues-Thursday which are always SO busy.
I’m also going to continue with cold turkey for social media while I’m working since it was such a success last week. I thought I’d used it 10 or so times during that first day but the stats part of the app tells me it blocked a url 22 times. 22 TIMES!! Wow. Gonna keep that going until I can consistently have 0 so I know the habit is broken. I imagine around 5 or so weeks.
Okok friday review and then I am going home.
1. I am so much more productive at the start of the week which is a shame because the last day and a half of the week are when I have time for my own projects. Instead, I am going to swap it around so I work on my own stuff on Monday, then on Thursday afternoon and Friday I am going to prep for the next week.
2. Going to the shoulds really makes the phd more fun, interesting, and feeling like a community. This week I went to two coffee hours, an informal guest chat, and two talks.
3. I dislike large seminars. My qualitative methods seminar has 24 people in it, so we’re limited to 2 comments per class. I’ll rely on the online participation more.
4. I can feel myself dopamine hunting on social media during the workday. Does anyone have any references for ways I can stop doing that. I’ve tried sitting with discomfort etc etc but it doesn’t stop me from reaching to open tumblr or twitter (or absolutely worst case, youtube, where I can lose hours if I don’t pay attention).
Ok I have a bus to go catch love you all I hope you’re week was alright.
Good morning good morning happy Monday!
I am throwing in my friday review here, because I did not get to it on friday because I got my ears pierced and had my aunt and uncle over for dinner and by the time they left I was not prepared to do any more work.
1. I will be less disappointed in my classes if I don’t expect them to be fulfilling. I am taking two methods classes, they are courses for learning the how. Thoughtful participation in them should still be my goal, but I can’t expect them to be stimulating to the same depth as my topic courses.
2. I need to wake up at 7:15 unfortunately.
3. I will be able to work more in the afternoon if I set up a better routine to get myself into that deep work state. Because I have classes all morning on Tuesday to Thursday, I am losing my prime working hours, so I need to figure out what will make working in the afternoon fun for me.
Anyway today there is a really cool visiting scholar whose talks are taking up most of my day, otherwise I’m going to plug through a fair amount of reading.
What do you folks have going on today?
Good morning good morning!
No friday review last week because I was ill and mentally in a pit (though I did some fun long form writing that was emotionally cathartic). But real quick here are some things I learned last week. I need to create more buffer space. My office is great for work sometimes, awful for work other times. If I am physically uncomfortable I can and should work from home. I need to figure out what’s holding me back from sending emails and reaching out to people. I was so good at it during week 1 but week 2 I was very bad at it.
This week contains a lot of small assignments wrapping up, which hopefully will feel great to have done. There’s a meeting for a paper I’m on, and some RA work that I need to futz around with (writing annual reports is SO boring but I need to get it done ASAP so I can work on Actually Interesting Stuff), and I need to do a lot of reading this week.
I hope you’re all doing well, my long term personal goal for this week is to go and clean out my closet, which will hopefully help with cleaning up my room which frankly is bad and I don’t like it at all. What do you folks have going on? Either professionally or personally, any big goals?
Kate’s Friday Review
Holy shit am I tired. I don’t want to do anything, whether its from a place of love or not. I just want to be sleeping, a lot. But when I sleep the quality is bad. Ugh.
School work is fine. Teaching is excellent. Students are lovely. My partner is wonderful. My parents are supportive.
I am so, so tired.
Cons of this week
- TA-ing is hella stressful, and I am doing a shit ton of learning during this whole first assignment (the second clause here is a plus)
- So much work to do meant that by the time I got to things I was excited and interested in them I was too exhausted to focus
- had a number of not good headaches and took me ages to work up the motivation to work out
- I havent properly cleaned because this marks basically 21 days with one half day off so my apartment is gross and I am burnt out
Pros of this week
- I successfully asked for supports! I got a project extension and I had a meeting with my head TA about my concerns and so now I have a gameplan.
- called my parents twice! Will be having skype lunch with them tomorrow too
- started moving my body more. Worked out yesterday and this morning and I feel more actually attached to my body
- i had a big growth moment where I realized how much the arbitrary rules (eg I have to drink one water bottle before I eat anything or have coffee) I put in place for comfort actually hold me back from enjoying things I also find comfortable. While those rules are good because my anxious ass finds the structure comforting, they are also constraining me when I let them run unchecked
- new nail polish!!
So pros of this week:
- I got my work rhythm back if only a couple of times, I know I can do it
- I started reaching out to more people
- I worked out three times
- I spoke twice in my scary class
Cons of this week:
- we are beating off dread with a stick my friends
- city is in lockdown
- I can barely focus
- stats has got me confused af
- I got through 4 of the 84 papers I need to mark for next Saturday
