New Frock Box!

The black dress is a lost opportunity. It’s a nice go-anywhere pick, but look at it sideways. It’s so unflattering. Why does the belt line go up like that?it doesn’t look like the hemline goes up too, so that has to be a stylistic choice. Whyyy?

The shoes are cute! But they have stitching, and you know how it always goes with stitched shoes: the stitches inevitably hit me on the bunion. Plus, the back part, at the heel, is a good centimetre too tall for my feet. It reaches way above my ankle joint. Socks or no socks, both of these problems will end up rubbing me raw. No thanks…

The white shirt is just so unflattering. I think it’s because it’s short, which makes me look as wide as I am tall. Plus, it’s really tight in the back (not in the front though, surprisingly), so much so that I’m afraid it would tear. On the upside, the fabric is fantastic! It’s all synthetic, but it feels like linen. Sadly, it also wrinkles as bad as linen does 😆

But I could deal if it looked better on me.

The black t-shirt is my favourite piece by far. I don’t have much super feminine clothing, so this is a bit out of my comfort zone, but I love it, especially the sleeves. The polka dots are made of some velvet/felt-like fabric, so there’s a 3D effect happening there. It will go perfectly with that floral skirt I got a while back that’s gorgeous, but that I never wear since I didn’t have a top that worked with it. This will finally do the trick!

Finally, the green shirt. I love that shirt, as I love a good boat neck. But whoever designed it doesn’t seem to have taken boobage into account! The flat lace won’t lay flat at all—by a large margin. I think a brighter green would work better too. This one looks a bit dull on me. There’s an attempt at ruches on the sides, which are meant to hide what one wants to underemphasize, but they didn’t go far enough with it, so it just looks wrinkly while emphasizing what shouldn’t be. Boo.

And now I shall go put on that black t-shirt because I love it! Ta!

I realized I forgot to post last month’s pictures! I’m posting them for my stylist’s benefit, but won’t comment as I’ve already provided her with my thoughts.

Who missed my Frock Box posts? Your curiosity shall momentarily be satiated!

The fuchsia shirt is a perfect example of an item I’d never have even looked at, let alone picked. But I love it! The colour is great, the slightly puffy sleeves are 👌 and the back is absolutely 😍

And it has a SQUARE NECKLINE! I love square necklines, but they’re not in right now, so it’s been years since I’ve seen any. I’m so happy!

The back has me worried though, as I’m not sure I can find a bra that won’t show. Sure, I can tighten the ribbon, but how much before it starts distorting the front?

The tank top initially delighted me, but that got dampened when I tried it on. It’s boxy and makes me look wider. It also suffers from the usual huge underarms. On the other hand, I *love* that type of fabric, light and weaved into patterns. It screams summer!

If I end up keeping it, I will strictly wear it with something over it, like a cardi. After all, when you look at the picture with the blue kimono, it looks great that way.

Also, the kimono makes me feel like a Mediterranean goddess! It’s light and airy and fabulous!

The navy pants are a no. First of all, their synthetic fabric will be absolutely horrendous for the summer. No one enjoys the wet crotch syndrome! Also, they’re supposed to be short, but my legs are too short for it to look right. I feel it looks like I’ve hemmed them too short. I love their width though!

Finally, the romper is gorgeous! The fabric feels nice and the back looks amazing. On the other hand, it too has huge underarms, though that’s less of a problem with black clothing. The front is also a wardrobe malfunction-in-waiting, so some sort of inner coverage is a necessity.

I don’t think I’ll keep it though because there is no way to wear a bra without it showing, and there is no way I can go braless. I thought a racerback might work, but the angle doesn’t match the thin side strips. 😢

Frock Box time!

Last month I’d requested this box be aimed more at wfh, so that’s what I got.

I think I’m keeping the jumpsuit. At first, the fabric didn’t do it for me, but once it’s on, it doesn’t feel odd anymore. And the legs are the right length! It’s a great lounging piece that would be a nice change from my current standard sweatpants/lined leggings and sweaters/hoodies. It’s a great 3-season piece. I like it a lot.

My stylist recommended I paired it with this cardi, and I agree: it looks awesome! Very classy, yet dressed down. I hate its fabric though! It feels very plasticky. I have plenty of such long cardis though, like last month’s fluffy one, so it’s not a problem. It’s going back.

She also suggested I paired it with the t-shirt. This t-shirt... what can I say? I’m ON BOARD with this message! It’s wide enough to accommodate my ample boobage! But that, as usual, the shoulders are over an inch too wide. Tucked in, untucked, it just doesn’t fit me well, and hits me right at the widest part of my hips. It’s gotta go back...

THE GREY SWEATER! I love this sweater! I love that it has a cowl neck rather than a full-on hoodie! It’s versatile! It fits me like a glove! The raglan sleeves uncharacteristically don’t accentuate my boobage! I think I’m in love...

Finally, the black sweater... as a Francophone, I can’t wear it in good conscience. Brunette is descriptive and innocuous in English but in French, it’s... not derogatory, absolutely not, but it’s a word that is rarely used, and usually in a derisive manner. Kind of like when you get called “miss” (yes, the italics are audible!) while being looked down on. It’d be like announcing myself as a ditz, and it couldn’t be taken ironically. The inside part is SHOOO SHOFFFFT though! 🥰

So, who missed my Frock Box posts? I had to skip last month, so it’s been a while!

The dress is super cute! The mister said it made me look like a librarian, which is far from an unpleasant comment afaic! 🤓 I could deal with the long sleeves (most sleeves are too long for me anyway) but it’s also too clingy, which makes it quite unflattering, sideways. It makes me look S-shaped. Ugh.

I LOVE that cardi! It’s somewhat too big but it’s fluffy and plush and soft and stretchy and daaaang, this is exactly what I needed in these COVID times! I’ll be wearing it all the time: to wfh, to lounge about, over my PJ... and I think it’s from this Canadian company Frock Box has started collaborating with? There’s really no downside!

The slinky green t-shirt is adorable, and I love everything about it! It’s nicely textured, the shoulder seams hit me in the right place, its length is perfect—including the sleeves! But it’s olive green 😭 I love green, but it’s really not my colour. I need it to have blue undertones for it to work, like a nice deep forest green (but not Christmas green!), and olive green definitely doesn’t. It makes me look sickly... it’s gotta go back.

The white t-shirt is overall too small. It’s cute, but ends up looking like a sausage casing! You’d think I was a bodybuilder.

Finally, the blood orange (lol) t-shirt doesn’t look quite right. I think it’s because of the frills. They’re probably supposed to hit me on the shoulders, but they’re actually down my arms. It looks a bit odd. I find it interesting to notice how similar this shirt’s shape is to the olive green one, but doesn’t look quite as flattering on me. There’s the shoulder frills, sure, but I’m thinking the sleeve length might really have something to do with it? That, plus the lack of texture. Food for thought... That being said, that colour is EVERYTHING 🤩 It looks closer to coral in the picture above, but it’s really not. If you’ve played Assassin’s Creen Odyssey, it’s the same colour as Kassandra’s mom’s dress, which I’ve been lusting after ever since! Heck, I got myself some nice bedsheets in that shade! Blood orange is me!

Thumbs up to Amy, my new stylist! This is a great box for a first one! She’ll have to joy of learning to deal with my ample boobage, my highly womanly hips and my dislike of huge armholes on tank tops! She’s got her work cut out for her 😅

Even during the pandemic, Frock Box shows up reliably!

This is a tie-dye mood!

The tank top would be super pretty if it didn’t hit me in all the wrong places. I love the colours, but the stitching and ruffles emphasize my tummy and waist in the front, which isn’t optimal. The waist stitching is so high that it also makes it look like my breasts are pulling the top up even though it isn’t the case. The back looks nice though. That being said, the arm holes are HUGE (I’d taken a picture but it was irreparably blurry—oops). They reach almost to the bottom of my bra and show a good third of side-boobs. This has been up scaled badly.

It’s going back.

The pants are absolutely lovely. I’m so in for high-rises! And they’re actual jeans, not flimsy jeans-wannabes! On the other hand, they’re too large for me. Well, too large is debatable: my hips and thighs are comfortably loose, which I’m not used to, but they hang wide around my waist. A belt would be uncomfortable since the waistband would be bunched up too much (with denim, folds end up quite thick), but no belt would mean the pants constantly sliding down. I have a sad 😢

The tie-dye top would be the kind of thing I’d like to lounge in. It’s closer to t-shirt fabric than the usual hoodie fabric (what’s that called anyway??), but I really, really don’t care for pastels. It also makes me look quite stocky. I thought the pants might have made it look worst than it is, so I switched to my regular ones and nope, I just don’t like it.

The dress is a fun piece, but I’m not sure how to wear it. There’s no way I can go braless (lolll forever) and strapless bras in my size are rare and darn expensive. Maybe it’s supposed to be worn over the shoulders, but if that’s the case it keeps sliding off. Also—and I never thought I’d ever say that—it’s too large around the chest! Like, it’s barely hanging on in there. That’s a wardrobe accident waiting to happen! The cuffs also hang a good 10 cm below my hands. Overall, it looks like I’m a kid wearing mom’s top! It’s adorable, but not quite the effect I want to achieve! 😅

The length is good though!

Finally, the open-toed booties (ignore my chipped nail polish, I’m just too lazy to take it off when, by waiting long enough, it will fall by itself 😆). I was dubious at first. I’m not a fan of open toes in general, or beige, and tiny holes like there tend to trigger my trypophobia. But it’s fine! The material feels nice and not plasticky as is often the case. The toe box is too long, as usual for heeled shoes, but not to the point where I’ll trip, plus the heels are so large that it doesn’t mean they dig in at the wrong place of my feet. And they’ll look lovely with last month’s one-piece! I need to figure out what to wear in them though. Yes, I can go sockless during the summer, but the rest of the year? Not so much...

Frock Box time!

I friggin’ LOVE the jumpsuit! It’s so fun and looks amazing! And the pants are just the right length 😭

It’s a bit less flattering seen from the side, though, as it clings to every nook and cranny. I’m sorry I didn’t realize at the time I took the picture that the front of the sideways shot was in the shadows, as that’s what I was trying to show. You can’t really see what I mean. I think I’ll keep it anyway just because it makes me want to jump up and down and giggle!

The green t-shirt is okay, but it needs a tiny bit more room around the chest area. It’s not as obvious here because my arm is raised to hold my phone, but the folds created from pulling the shoulders’ fabric look like arrows pointing straight at the boobage! Not ideal. The colour washes me out a bit, too, I think. It’s going back.

Same goes for the white top. Look at how much shorter it is in the front than in the back—a good 10 cm. It’s sad too because I really like the fabric texture and the design. I would finally have had a top to wear with my skirts! But it’s also going back.

LOOK AT THAT HOODIE! I love it so much! It’s super soft, has fun interesting details (I’m sad my hand hides the collar of the hood, where both ends at the front cross over each other). POCKETS! And its bright colour, halfway between neon orange and pink (the tag calls it “passionfruit”) looks stunning on me. A definite keeper!

I also love the orange dress, with its fun elastic waist, but I think it would have looked better one size up. It’s meant to be loose, but is kind of clingy on me. It’s not really meant to emphasize by belly that way. If I was sure I could get it in a larger size, it’d be an easy decision: I’d return it and just ask for it to be exchanged, but that’s not the case so I need to make a decision. I’m really not sure. What do you think?

Never mind the pandemic, my monthly Frock Box post lives on!

The gradient dress is cute! The shoulders are too wide and the hem is too short, but lockdown has made me realize just how short I am on loungewear, so this will be perfect. Keep!

(BTW I don’t know what was with the lighting there, but I swear my knees are not wrinkly 😂)

The black t-shirt is nice, the fabric feels soft and the shape is quite flattering on me, but it’s a black t-shirt. I have so many black t-shirts already that I can’t justify getting one more.

The bermuda shorts were an unexpected pick. I haven’t worn bermudas in some 20 years! It’s nice to see they’re making a comeback. Initially I thought they were shorts and was iffy about that pick because I honestly can’t see myself wearing shorts. Maybe because I’ve never found the right ones, who knows? I’d say they were a taaaaad too long for my taste, maybe an inch, maybe less, but it wouldn’t have been an issue weren’t it for the fact that they’re too tight around the waist. Not overly so, since I could tie the button without a problem, but it would still be uncomfortable to sit down or wear for an extended period of time.

The green shirt, I was sure would be a winner. I love its fabric and it looks like something I could have worn year-round. What you can’t see here is that there’s actually a tab inside the sleeves to hold them rolled up, and my first hint it wouldn’t work was when I tried to put the shirt on and the rolled-up sleeves couldn’t even make it over my forearms, let alone my elbows! Once unrolled, I could slip the sleeves on but that’s literally the only thing that worked as planned. The shirt is way too small, and I barely managed to keep the snaps closed long enough to take a picture! So it’s going back too.

Finally, the sandals. I love them. The straps are fully elastic and hold the sandals to my feet super well. The size is perfect. I love the twisty ankle strap thingy. And I could use new shoes for the beach since I don’t like to wear my Birkenstocks in the sand. But, and I don’t know if you can see it well on the picture, the top edge of the toe straps hit me exactly at the bottom of my bunions, at the worst spot. Not only is it uncomfortable as is, but I’d get blisters within 5 minutes of walking around. Having that strap even a quarter of an inch lower on the foot would solve the problem, but that’s not going to happen, so the sandals are going back 😢
