“Jesus Christ,” groans John, tipping his head back in frustration as Bill lets out a sharp laugh. He rolls his gaze back down to Bill, attempting as much sternness as he can muster poised bare over the man, lips bitten red, marks purpling all over his torso, and what seems to be a permanent flush painting his face and chest. “Christ— are you clean, then?”

“’Course I’m clean, you—” Bill pushes John in the chest with a glare, sending him off balance. John catches himself with a hand on Bill’s knee, where he digs his nails in with retribution. “You fucker— know what, I should be askin’ if you’re clean,” he gets hold of John’s dog tags and yanks him in close by the chain, “goin’ round with any damn guy who looks at you half nice—”

“Fuck you, Guarnere,” spits John, shoving hard at the man’s sharp jaw to get more than an inch of separation from his face.

“Hold on, hold on,” stammers John, stilling himself and tightening his hands on Bill’s shoulders. “Shit— you got a rubber?”

Bill looks up at him, lips parted and brows furrowed, and his mind is clearly elsewhere, judging by the soft, clouded look in his eyes. “Nah, I ain’t got— hell, the girls usually have ‘em,” he replies, sounding like he’s run a marathon. 

“You— what, really?” presses John, almost too surprised to be proud of the state he’s put the man in. Almost. 

“What the hell else you think they keep in them purses? And I had some,” defends Bill sharply, “but I ran out two days ago.” This is accompanied by a wolfish grin.

“Why?” John manages after a moment.  “Too much trouble to go find another girl,” replies Bill simply, breath hot and wet against the thin skin of John’s collarbone. “God, you flatter me,” John scoffs sardonically, more than a bit embarrassed at how breathy his voice is-- from little more than bit of heavy petting, no less.
