Sabine cooed at the sweet little mama deer in her lap. “I know it stings...but I’m almost done I promise. And you’ll meet your little one soon!”
Her sweet voice carries on the wind through the forest and the clearing they’re lying in as if it’s music meant to ride such an elemental thing. Her deft fingers finish bandaging the wounded thing’s legs and she gently pats the gauze wit one hand while another strokes her neck. Little flurries of magic sink deep into the protective wrapping to keep the wounds from becoming infected.
“See? All done. Are you ready to get up or is it time?” With a sweet smile the young redhead gently places a hand on the deers pregnant belly and lets her magic tell her what’s happening. She hums and then giggles a little bit. “Such an active baby! But it’s not time yet. Just a little while longer I know it’s not fun, especially when your legs are hurt but you go rest and the baby will come when it’s ready.”
Sab leans down and kisses the deer on her forehead, then very gently helps her stand. It hurt her heart to see her wobble on her legs but she’d heal. A mother always healed. The poor thing had been caught in a thorn bush on the edge of the clearing. Scared, she’d hurt herself more by wriggling harshly. Sab had had to pluck out the thorns and then apply first aid while speaking lowly to calm her.
As she watches the deer move away she smiles and feels her heart warm at the sight. New life would be coming to the forest soon, lots with the spring arriving and she was happy to have helped a future mother and her baby to be safe. When the mama deer was gone sab laid back on her blanket and smiled as the sun warmed her body. A perfect day..
Until her mother called her.
