I have a genuine question ! And I ask it with the utmost respect (and the biggest curiosity). I've been seeing people selfship for years now and I always struggled to grasp the concept of it. Or maybe I'm just dense... which is probable
Is this simply you shipping your real self with a character with any fandom ? Like, is this simply this ? Or is there more to it ? I'm really curious to understand how it works!
(also, I hope I'm not stressing you with all my notifications, I'm just going over your blog and I wanted to interact a bit if that's okay with you. Feel free to ignore this, btw)
hello dear chloe!! please, i have no probably with you perusing and interacting. i hope you feel welcome! :3
to answer your question, yes selfshipping is essentially an imagined scenario between you and your character of choice! there are a lot of unique nuances though! some people do imagine themselves as they are in real life with their f/o (fictional other), some people will also imagine more of their “ideal self” (meaning how you wish to be even if it’s not exactly as you are in the mirror), and some people make a self-insert “character” that’s heavily based on themselves to put into their f/o’s canon universe!
most selfships are romantic in my experience, but i have seen others that are more platonic, and they also come in many different tropes (relationship, marriage, friends with benefits, even enemies to lovers)! they are deeply personal reflections of one’s feelings they have for a character they really love from fandom and want to see themselves with!
i hope this gives you a peek into the world of selfshipping and helps with your understanding :3 feel free to ask me about it any time!!
