Finished reading. Lovely cartooning by Stanislas Barthelemy, interesting anecdotes, but more a building of incident and information than a satisfying biography of Herge. Shouldn't need to read the mini-bios of the people involved to fill in so many gaps and answer so many questions. Herge is a fairly static and distant enigma throughout, the book is shallow as far as what goes on in Herge's head regarding his actions. Things happen, more time is spent on a minor acting role being dropped from a Tintin movie than why Herge tires of his first wife or drags his heels in producing albums or what he really believed while accused of treason/ collaboration. Things happen, there are a few striking choices and interesting tidbits. A quote from the back of the book calls it an "intriguing curiosity". I was hoping for more. Would want to own a copy for the beautiful cartooning and the subject, would buy it cheap at a used book store (borrowed from the library). #NYPL #theadventuresofhergé #comics #bocquet #fromental #stanislasbarthélémy #drawnandquarterly
