Yeah I had a breakdown too, I was checking my phone for the names of my family members as I was like the only Jewish kid on the trip and they yelled at me as I'm trying not to cry, then I strayed from the group for a few minutes to look because it was my family's history and since nobody else was crying as hard as me they thought I was completely insane and told me that to my face that they were afraid I was going to go insane so they had to keep a teacher with me at all times. fuck that

it really bugs me how many people think that Jews haven't gone through shit for whatever reason or are like "wow get over it" like shut the fuck up my grandparents still cry at night and my family members have written books about how they watched everyone they love be tortured to death systematically. the holocaust wasn't a fucking fairy tale and to people whose lives are centered around learning about their culture and their suffering joking about it is fucking terrible

i went to the holocaust museum back in eighth grade and found the names of members of my own family. it was one of the most surreal things to have ever happened to me and it really just... changed me.
because most of my family (save for my great grandfather, who was smuggled into america by his father's friend) were murdered in auschwitz, i know absolutely nothing about them except for their names. records and property were destroyed and stolen and i will never truly know who my family is. just because i wasn't there doesn't mean it doesn't affect me personally every day, especially since anti-semitism is still well and alive - in europe and elsewhere.
bringing these things into an anime that i look to for amusement is really disgusting and trivializing everything that my ancestors have fought for and ultimately lost their lives to.
