Unpopular opinion: convict cichlids are intelligent and personable fish capable of bonding with their owners, and they don't deserve the bad rep they get on here. If people want to hate on a cichlid species hate on frontosas. I had those things since they were an inch big; now they are almost a foot and they still get so scared every I walk by that they often swim into the glass. No wonder they have those freaking huge bumps on their head.
Also in general South & central American cichlids are > African cichlids.
