i was so certain that was bnha dude. should i read it
Ao no flag you mean? Ah! Finally this question so I can talk shit about it while trying to convince someone to read it.
Right now I’m far too up Ao no Flag ass to drop it - unless Kaito does something terrible and so far he didn’t - and honest to god I really enjoy it even if it makes me suffer every week.
The plot is really simple: Taichi and Touma are childhood friends and at the last year of highschool they found themselves in the same class. Taichi meets Futaba, a very shy girl who has a crush on Touma and decides to help her with it. The three of them starts to hang out - along with Futaba’s best friend Masumi - and to become all friends with each other.
Now let’s talk about the obvious part that made me start it: Touma and Masumi are both gay. Not like, naruto gay, legitimately gay. With Touma is never explicitly said so - but it’s canon - while Masumi actually came out to Taichi - even if then she told him it was a joke.
AND NOW let’s talk shit about it:
- First thing first the two gay characters are both closeted and in love with their straight best friends (Touma has a crush on Taichi since they were kids and Masumi has a crush on Futaba).
- Masumi at the beginning of the story is a lesbian in a relationship with a man - and is even said that she had several boyfriends in the past - and while yes, mood, we all went through that it’s pretty uncomfortable considering that the author is not a lesbian - as far as I know
- While it became “””quite gay””” lately (meaning that it looks like Tai might have feelings for Touma?? and Touma almost came out to Taichi) so far the narrative isn’t really treating the two gay characters quite well. Not that they are made fun of or treated in a stereotypical way but they are still two closeted gays hiding their crush for they straight best friends, straight best friends who are starting to develop a crush on each other. And especially Masumi has been shown suffering because of this.
So yeah I’ll keep reading it because I actually like it, love Touma and want to see where this is all going, but I understand that this kind of narrative can be very hard for a gay person to read.
Anyway read it so I’m not alone.
