So…is Braxel some sort-of shapeshifting bracken, or is he just a shapeshifter that chooses to look bracken-y?

Braxel is a shapeshifter that imprinted on the first thing upon breaking containment in an abandoned moon's facility!! (Bracken)

Baby Braxel!! :)

He's just a naturally curious being!! A bracken had wandered close not so long after Braxel's containment breach (bracken thought humans were in the facility so was doing what brackens do best) but it was just a strange small pathetic thing on the ground.

Braxel had immediately taken a liking to this form in front of it, therefore making it his default form from then on. (The bracken was frightened at the sudden form change of this unknown creature in front of it and fled)

The main differences between Braxel and normal brackens is most obviously, color.

Braxel funnily enough wasn't able to get a good look at a fully lit-up bracken, therefore their appearance is almost always shadowy in appearance.

A tail, reminiscent of his original form, and also him 'winging it' since it's hard to pick out details from something you only glanced at for a good 10 seconds in the dark 😮‍💨

Hidden mouth, occasionally hunts other monsters in the facility to sustain themselves.

Braxel prefers being in their bracken form, since it's the most comfortable for them, scrunching themselves into smaller forms can make them feel restless, especially if held for longer periods of time (though they will never feel tired or exhausted holding a form, it's moreso "I'd much rather be something else")

Braxel will also constantly be 'freestyling' his form from time to time, it depends on his environment and the people/creatures around them.

However, if they are ever badly wounded (this hardly ever happens as it would take AT LEAST an entire fullbody explosion in a vulnerable state) they will revert back to their original tiny form to recover.

Anyway, in short; Braxel is indeed a shapeshifter that chooses to look like a bracken!
