This is a long post. You may skip it if you would like.
Whenever I’m alone I realize how much I still think about you.
You’re like a drug; one that I’ve been trying to rid myself of but the addiction is too strong.
This isn’t meant to be beautiful. Being a drug isn’t a good thing.
You’ve destroyed parts of my mind as well as my life.
There are multiple things I simply cannot do because it brings feelings for you that are so powerful and raw that I feel like vomiting.
Ripped away violently, flesh from bone.
I would’ve done anything for you.
You, my new family, my only family.
It took me so long just even consider getting close to someone else.
If it weren’t for my real sister, who helped me out during this time of darkness that your abandonment left me in, I would not be here at all.
If it weren’t for my friend, who I now call best friend, I’d still feel alone.
If it weren’t for my wonderful boyfriend, I would still consider myself insane.
Which you let me believe I was, for the longest time.
Without him, I’d still be working my horrible job, living with my horrible mother, and having a horrible outlook on life.
It wasn’t fair on him, you know.
You left me in such a dissociative state that when my boyfriend and I first met that I cringe as to our first months of communications.
And I think that hurt him a lot.
It wasn’t until months afterwards did he thaw me out.
God, what would I have done if he weren’t there?
Yet I feel so guilty because I had treated him so poorly.
All because all I could think about was you.
How much I loathed you at the time.
If I wasn’t loathing you, I was missing you.
If I wasn’t missing you, I was consumed with the feeling of guilt.
Was I not good enough for you?
If I wasn’t feeling any of these; I was numb.
So numb I would go days without eating or contacting anyone.
I’d even avoid my boyfriend and my family just because why bother?
What was the point; you weren’t there.
God it pisses me off when I think about it now.
You did not deserve to be my friend.
You, a spoiled young child who got everything they ever wanted simply by asking for it.
You, who does not even work for what they have.
You don’t pay for your own school, your own apartment, your own car.
I can’t be friends with people like you anymore. Nothing to do with jealousy, even though there was a time when I was just a bit.
I can’t be friends with people like you anymore because you don’t know anything. You don’t know how hard life can be. You don’t know what it’s like to have to do the hard things just to survive. You don’t know the feeling you get after you’ve worked for something for so long and you finally get it.
And I have more important things to do than play around with you.
I still think of you. A lot more than I should. I wish I could erase you from my mind. Every time I tell a joke that I just know instinctively would be a joke you’d laugh at, I get sad. And then angry. Very quickly.
If I would’ve known you’d do this to me in the slightest
I’d probably do it again.
The past me was so trusting. So blind. So forgiving.
However, because I cannot erase you from my brain, I know not to accept you back into my life again. Because even though I loved you,
And even when I break down when I’m by myself I think I still do sometimes,
I will never have you close to me again.
The wound you’ve left me has finally stopped bleeding.
But the scar that remains reminds me that I cannot survive a second hit.
You’ve left half of me torn, ripped apart, broken.
The people around me picked me back up.
They loved me when I hated everything.
They loved me even though I never even asked for it.
They see these scars you’ve given me and call me beautiful,
Even though for the longest time I couldn’t believe how ugly they were.
I love them more than anything now.
And yes, more than I’ve ever loved anyone. And yes, that’s so dangerous.
If they’re to be ripped from me like how you ripped yourself from me, I don’t think I’ll make it.
I have to believe that there are some people who are kind, loving, and won’t hurt people like how you hurt people.
