Needless to say, I was ridiculously disappointed in Cursed Child. In the meantime, I was also dissatisfied with my current forms of entertainment, because my brain feels like it’s melting. (I refuse to download another damn app to fill the empty void.)
So to the internet I went for fanfic. I’m a fan of Dramione -- mostly because I hoped that Draco Malfoy gained some class post-Deathly Hallows and Hermione deserved much better than Ron. I’m also a fan of well-written fanfic, and This Curse to Bear did not disappoint.
The premise: Draco’s a Veela, and we find out early on in the story that Hermione is his mate/one true love/etc. The story isn’t original as far as fanfiction goes, but the writing style and humor is pretty much up my alley. Draco’s a sarcastic bastard and occasional alcoholic, and Hermione is a sassy bitch with as much heart as she has brains.
Hermione, in this fanfic, doesn’t shy away from passion -- whether in her studies, or helping Draco, or in keeping her friends close. Draco’s snarky and barely processes feelings, with a playful cockiness that’s supposed to be seen as evil or sinful in the books. The fanfic version is almost how I want Draco and Hermione to be, except we never really see that in the books themselves because everything focuses on Harry.
The plot was lighthearted and humorous despite the fact that both Draco and Hermione almost die -- mostly because it focuses on this new “relationship” that they have to develop, and both stay true to character. But honestly, I just needed something cute to read. And I did.
Today I finished the best fic I've read in a long time and it made me so happy. It had perfect characterization and was actually hilariously sweet and fluffy and weird. Anyways, the degree of happiness i can derive from a good dramione fic is probably another reason i have such a boring social life.
"What your puny mind doesn't understand, Potter, is that she does the paperwork I hate, and I do the dirty work that grates on her Gryffindor sensibilities." Hermione and Draco have been partners working in the Department for Control and Regulation of Magical Creatures for years, but their comfortable partnership is shaken up when creatures go missing and the Aurors get involved.
Love it so far... highly recommend it! So far there is 2 chapters... but it is already finished with promises with fast updates. Enjoy!
