:o for the prompt thing.. Froyo gets froyo? (Sorry i've been wanting to use that joke forever, but yeah, do you think you could write something about Yosafire and Froze getting frozen yogurt/ice cream? I think that'd be cute!)
Froze ate her icecream quickly. She hated it when her cold foods heated up. She was already halfway through - vanilla, her favorite, because she was boring sometimes. She wouldn’t even get it with sprinkles. Just a plain old vanilla cone. Usually Yosaf complained, but right now, she was just happy to see Froze enjoying herself. She wasn’t smiling, sure, but there was this little glow in her eyes that let Yosaf know she was content.
"So, speaking of wings, how are yours doing?" Yosafire asked, trying not to sound too anxious. Froze’s damaged wing had been bandaged up, and Etihw had done her best to heal it with magic, but it was still pretty sore. Froze hardly moved it. She’d been walking everywhere- unless, of course, Yosaf was carrying her, which she had been, because practice! The little glow in Froze’s eyes melted away a little, and her frown deepened.
"They’re fine." she replied flatly, taking a bite out of her cone. "Still hurt, but that’s to be expected."
"Are you sure?" Yosafire pushed.
"Your icecream is melting." Froze said. Yosaf yelped, licking it quickly.
"C’mon Froze, I’m not trying to bug you! I just wanna know if you’re doing okay. You always keep stuff to yourself." she said, or tried to. She couldn’t tell how many of the words were getting out as she tried to keep her cone from falling apart.
Froze sighed, her eyes closing for a moment.
"We aren’t all open books like you." she murmured. "I am fine though. Etihw thinks I’ll be able to fly again in a few weeks. Maybe sooner."
“Yes. I suppose.” Froze shrugged a little. She had finished her icecream. Yosaf was still trying to save hers. There were rainbow sprinkles everywhere- she was going to have to clean this top when she got home… “Uhf, Yosaf, you’re getting it all over yourself.” Froze sighed.
“It melts too quickly!” Yosaf moaned, taking a large bite. “I’m just too hot, my body makes it melt faster- gah!!! Brain freeeeeeeze!" she dropped the cone, clutching her head.
“You’re just making a mess!” Froze cried, groaning. “You’re impossible… why does anyone go in public with you?”
“Cuz I’m adorable!” Yosaf yowled, trying to ease the pain. “Frooooze use your ice magic to make it stooooop!”
“That’s not how it works- oh for Etihw’s sake, here.” Froze sighed, getting up. “Press your thumb to the roof of your mouth. It will warm it. That makes the pain go away.”
“Are you thure?” Yosaf lisped, speaking around her thumb. She pressed hard, and within a couple of seconds, the throbbing subsided. She sighed in relief. “Ahhh. Thanks, Froze. You’re a life safer!” she beamed.
“That’s a bit of an exaggeration…” Froze muttered, sitting back down next to her.
“Not really. I mean, you did save my life. You’re always looking out for me.” Yosaf smiled. “You’re the best friend a demon could ask for!” Froze wasn’t looking at her. Her pale face practically glowed pink, as she tried to hide it behind her bangs. Yosaf giggled. Froze was so cute when she blushed. She made a quick move, trying to hug her, but Froze pushed her back.
“You’re covered in icecream.” she said. “You’re going to get stains on my shirt.”
“Stains are no match for out love, Froze!” Yosaf cried, still trying to seize her.
“Knock it off Yosaf. How did you manage to get so messy? It’s all over your face…”
“Maybe you could help me clean it~” Yosaf giggled. Froze raised an eyebrow.
“I’m not a nursemaid, Yosaf. I’m not going to wash your face for you.” she replied flatly. Yosaf grinned. This could be her big chance. To finally make a move. She’d read about it in books before, the first kiss. It was supposed to be super romantic- and really, what was more romantic than a mid-afternoon icecream date?
“You don’t have to clean all of it. Just a little bit.”
“What are you even talking about?” Froze sighed, shaking her head. “Honestly Yosaf, you’re so-” the angel’s guard had fallen, and the demon lunged. Yosaf darted in quick, pressing her mouth to Froze’s. Whatever Froze was about to say caught in her throat, and she made a strange, startled sound. Her mouth was really cold. Not, like, ice cold or anything, but still, colder than Yosaf had thought it would be. It was nice though. Froze seemed to melt a little, her mouth parting, moving back against hers. It was finally happening. Their first kiss!
Yosaf started to reach out, lace her hands around Froze’s neck- when the angel bit her tongue.
“Owowowowowowwwwww!” Yosaf yelped, scrambling back. “What the hecky Froze?!” she cried, hand over her mouth. She couldn’t taste blood, but still, owwww!!!
“What the hell was that?!” Froze shrieked. Her face was redder than Yosafire had ever seen it. Her eyes were wide, and her wings were unfurled, bristling fiercely. “How… why would you…”
“You bit me!” Yosaf whined. There were tears coming to her eyes, and now she felt stupid. What had she been thinking? Froze hated surprises. Froze hated most things. Why on earth would she want to be kissed by her?
“Why would you do something like that?” Froze asked breathlessly. “Why would you… why?" Froze’s voice hitched a little, and Yosaf realized that there were tears in her eyes. Her heart sank. No. Nonono noooo this wasn’t what she’d been trying to do!
“I’m sorry Froze!” she cried, not sure if she should try and comfort her or not. Probably shouldn’t hug her, she’d mess up her shirt- and it didn’t look like Froze wanted to be touched by her anyway. “I didn’t think it would upset you this much, I swear, I didn’t want to hurt you-“
“You didn’t.” Froze shook her head, face still red. “You didn’t hurt me. You just… surprised me.”
“I thought it would be cute. A surprise kiss.” Yosaf mumbled. Her tongue felt sore. Why was she such an idiot? “I’m sorry. I love you Froze, I don’t want to make you uncomfortable or anything, really!” She felt like crying too, but Froze was already starting to cry, and it didn’t feel right to cry too. Froze never cried. Why the heck had she gone and made Froze cry?
“Why would you want to kiss me?” Froze asked quietly. Tears were streaming down her face- she was a silent cryer, serious even in her sadness. Yosaf wiped her own eyes, forcing a smile.
“Why wouldn’t I?” she giggled. Froze’s gaze fell a little. Her wings had furled again, tucked neatly against her back, but they rustled now, uncomfortable with the subject. For awhile, she was just quiet. Then, finally, she spoke again.
“I’m cold.” she said.
“I could give you my sweater, if you want-“
“No, I mean I’m a cold person.” she snapped, then winced. “See? I’m icy. I shut people out. I snap at them when they try to get in. You’re bubbly, and warm, and nice, and I’m just… I’m lonely, and bitter, and difficult.” Froze closed her eyes. “Why would you ever want to put up with someone like me?”
“Froze…” Yosaf couldn’t believe her ears. How could she think that? It boggled her mind. Froze… she was perfect. If not, then she was pretty damn close. Yosaf took her hands and squeezed them, ignoring the way she bristled. “I don’t care about that stuff. That’s just a part of who you are. You’ve got lots of other parts too. You’re super smart, and you’re really helpful, and you’re brave and strong… you know how to keep your cool in bad situations. Whenever I freak out, you help calm me down.” she smiled, remembering all of the times Froze had kept her feet on the ground when she’d been ready to spiral into a panic. “You help me with my homework, and you get me up every morning… you always look out for me. Honestly, I’m not really sure what I did to deserve such an amazing friend. How could I not love you?” she giggled, and Froze’s face burned harder.
“Don’t say things like that.” she murmured, looking down.
“I can’t help it. I love you.” Yosafire giggled. “I loooooove you. I love Froze!” she sang. Froze looked like she was going to burst into flames. Some angels and demons around them had turned their heads, but most seemed uninterested.
“I’m the one who doesn’t deserve a friend like you.” Froze said quietly. “You were the first one to reach out to me, Yosaf. Everyone else was too scared. Even when I tried to chase you off… you always stood there, by my side.” Froze looked up, staring straight into her eyes. “You are a true friend, Yosafire. You’re the most important person in my life-” Froze cut off, realizing what she was saying. Somehow, her face got even darker. Yosaf could feel her own cheeks blushing. Her face hurt, she was grinning so wide.
Carefully, slowly, she leaned in, planting a gentle kiss on Froze’s nose. Even while blushing her skin was still cool.
“You don’t have to be an open book, Froze.” she smiled, nuzzling Froze’s nose with her own. “You don’t have to be warm or bubbly. That’s not you. I love you just the way you are.”
Froze sat there, silent. Then, she reached out, wrapping her arms around Yosaf. She hugged her, tight, her body quivering. Yosaf hugged back.
