If the child had thought that the dragon would remain as it was, then he was wrong. Not being completely covered in soot anymore, its eyes glowed a bright blue before it stretched out into its true form.

Now the question of why it had been freed remained. With no other monks around, it was safe to assume that the child had brought it out for whatever reason. Was it because of the explosions? Were they under attack? That did seem to be the only time it was released, and yet there were no orders to attack.

It stared down at the other, as if awaiting those orders, eyes occasionally darting to the exit. If the child was truly alone, then this would be the perfect opportunity to leave. When the humans were done with it, they would always toss that horrid black stuff on it, then trap it in that box.

Squad up peeps lets talk about this! Okay, what if the empire was composed of more than just fire benders? Like, there are some earth/metal benders for doing repairs, water benders for healing and such, maybe even one air bender (maybe the old commander with the amazing side burns?) who's alive from achieving enlightenment. Not to mention some blood benders for torturing and even some lightning benders to attack with water benders! What do you think?
