Last week in photos- I forgot to post everyday on tumblr but I have been posting on Instagram. This is a fun challenge I've set for myself, and I've only missed one day in the two week I've been doing this. It's interesting to look around to see what would make a good photo. Obviously not all of them are master piece photographs, but they all represent my interests and things I find that look cool/interesting. I'm pretty proud of myself for keeping up with this despite a fairly busy schedule.
Morning Walk - (11/12/16) These are just some photos I took today while going to a walk around my neighborhood. They all had interesting lighting which is why I took them. I find glares and random streaks of light really fascinating. I'm determined to keep up with my early New Year's resolutions.
This is my art piece for the exhibit my Art Essentials class put on. There are three side to it, each side showing a different part of film. On the left side, the director sits in their chair examining the other scenes. The center shows the camera operator and boom operator filming the scene. Then on the right, the slate is ready to be clapped down and the actor is ready to start the scene. I originally wanted to cut out the design or possibly 3D print it but time and skill did not allow it, but I like how it turned out. I knew I wanted it black and white, and if I hadn't done it in the format I had I don't think it would've come across as clear.
This is my Skeleton Still Life drawing I had to do for my Drawing Fundamentals class. I'm fairly proud of the proportions and the shape of the skeleton in general. The shading and blending was a lot harder than I expected and I feel it didn't turn out the best. To me, it seems a little too dark but I'm still surprised at how well I did, given that going into this project I thought it would be way too hard to draw a skeleton. It ended but being a lot of fun and I think I enjoyed it more than our other still life projects we've done.
We also worked with new tools that I hadn’t worked with before. They were charcoal which I’ve used before but ever the white charcoal on gray toned paper. The texture of the paper was another challenge altogether, and I didn’t particularly enjoy that part. All in all, I’m really starting to like my drawing class.
For Homework recently I was asked to research an internship that related to my major in some way. I did mine over the Dallas Film Society’s Internships.
An internship that I found that interested me was with the Dallas Film Society. The DFS is a nonprofit organization that helps filmmaker and film educators spread their works and knowledge. They hold film festivals like the Dallas International Film Festival and provide summer camps and other events to get the younger generations into film and the arts. The different internships that they offer are setting up the festivals and screening, publicity, and other special events and memberships. The job that would help me the most is coordinating the festivals because I would be able to make connections with important people in the DFS and other people in the film industry that could help build my career in the future.
A few of the requirements to do this internship are the abilities to research films and programs and make reports out of that research as well as being able to assist in several different offices apart of the DFS like the Programming Office. Currently, I am not an expert at researching and writing reports nor do I know enough about the DFS and the different offices they have. A few of the ways I can change that is that I can look up different research papers similar to those they need and read them and even practice writing some. It is possible as well that I might receive a class that requires research papers that could help me build up my experience and comfort with writing them.
Another thing I need to work on to make myself a more eligible candidate is to become more familiar with the organization and possibly even become a member. If they already know that I am a hard worker and avid film enthusiasts and maker then they have more of a reason to choose me as an intern and give me the experience I need. Something else that might benefit me, is developing better people skills and learning to be more confident and fluid in what I say. This would make me a more qualified applicant.
