Do you have any suggestions on how to force yourself to do things or have discipline to do the things you know will help you feel better? For example it takes a long time from me thinking I should draw or eat to me actually doing the thing.
If you’re talking about the time it takes to finally get around to doing a thing, that’s not really a lack of discipline (though it certainly appears that way), it’s part of executive dysfunction. And it sucks.
This is where schedules and routines come in really handy.
My schedules have to be pretty open (like, “mornings I will clean house, afternoons I will do work and writing”) because specific schedules (like, “at ten I will do the laundry and at half-past I will clean the guinea pig cages”) never work quite how I wanted and make me feel really restricted. They’ve only ever been good for me for school timetables.
Routines are awesome. I know exactly what to do, and the things go in a particular order so I know that when I finish one thing it’s time to do this next thing. It can be difficult to start a routine, but my advice is to start small, with a checklist of all things you already do at that time, and then add one thing at a time.
