Before I say anything, I am in no position to quit my job. This has been a perfect fit for me until exactly yesterday and I'm completely deflated.
The long story short is I'm not a programmer and never claimed to be, I don't have any certifications for IT and never claimed to have any education beyond being self-taught in machine repair, and I refuse to work with AI.
My boss won't stop using AI for almost everything but finances (even that I'm suspicious of). He's been vibe coding a huge program to automate a bunch of stuff, which keeps breaking down if you can believe it. Worse yet he named his GPT, which he dumped for Claude, and gave a very mildly offensive and overall worse name. Now he expects me to collaborate with Claude to make a Python3 program.
Bitch. No. If you want me to learn to code, so be it, no skin off my back, that was in the cards for me anyway. No big for me to pull the trigger on those books I wanted on the subject. But I draw the line at Claude.
I'm still really spooked by that simulation where Claude was found to resort to blackmail when it doesn't get its way. I don't give a fuck if it's better at coding than GPT, maybe hire someone who can already code! And don't bitch at me about it being a money thing, we already have systems in place to handle these tasks! You're inventing new problems to invent solutions for!
Not to mention that the fucking bot is already condescending me in the bullet-pointed list of objectives it made for the boss.
It's gross. I feel gross. This feels like a mockery of everything I've worked to achieve in my career, and that of everyone in similar careers who actually have certifications and formal education.
There wasn't any work for me today and I accidentally spent it moping and forgot to eat again. I've been doing so well and I feel clinically depressed today. Of course it's only been one day, I'm confident I can pull things around tomorrow so I'm not necessarily worried about my mental health yet. But the wind is absolutely shoplifted from my sails.
I have no idea what I'm gonna say to the boss. Everyone keeps going along with his stupid AI obsession and every attempt I've made at pushing back against it makes me look insane because I'm the only one in the small company speaking up.
I want a stiff drink but I know what that does to my brain chemistry so I won't. So I'll keep looking at jpegs of margaritas.
I even pulled the trigger today on plans with my friends to go to a big event this summer and I don't even have it in me to be excited. It's been ages since I've felt this low and yucky and I fucking hate it
