He entered a race, when he saw a newbie. Fucking ecstatic over a new peson in the racing scene. (And the possibility of them being you).
He saw you race, and was awed at how well you drove, wanting to talk to you afterwards.
He was surprised and very happy to see you, as you finally took off your helmet. “Holy shit it’s (name)!!!!!”

At first he thought you were out for personal reasons, until he hasn’t heard about you for a good year.
However, he entered a race, in which he saw a new person.
There was some hope in his eyes that said “maybe it’s them?”
He was right, the newbie was you, just by watching you drive. Obviously he was pretty damn happy that you’re ok.
