Ok but just think for a moment about how sad it is that Fitz was so damaged by his father's constant scorn that he felt the need to prove himself first to Jemma and then to the others. Think about how this is largely due to him hearing it day in and day out, from the time he was a wee chap. Think about how it is likely because his mother was his only source of support (the other kids likely excluded him because he was smarter than them). Just take a moment to think about all of that :)
Also, imagine this scenario: Peggy wakes up one night because she is thirsty and she walks past her parents’ bedroom to go downstairs to get her drink. But then she stops because it sounds like her mum is crying. So she goes over and opens the door just a smidge and peeks in. She sees her mum moving her boyd around wildly, almost screaming. Beside her is Fitz trying to wake her up. When she does, Peggy watches as her mum sobs and her dad holds her close.
