Nightmare | Self - para

It was dark. Sebastian usually liked the dark, it was comforting, like an old friend- but this was different, it was darker than it should be. It was as if he had his eyes closed, although he knew they were wide open. He took a hesitant step forward, a sickening crunch sounding underneath his foot. He didn’t want to know what it was - but he had to. He took out his wand, murmuring a quick Lumos. The tip was glowing, but nothing was illuminated. Outside of the small light, it was still pitch black. He angled it down toward his feet, and saw a small bone. He swallowed around a lump in his throat - he knew without getting any closer it would be a human bone. He had to get out. His mind was screaming at him - find Bella.

He turned, frantic, desperate to find a way out of wherever it was he was stuck. He saw a dim light, a small crack in the darkness, as if it were coming from a closed door, and he ran to it. He found the handle in the darkness, and although it was burning hot, he tore it open anyway with an anguished cry. He let out a soft, uncharacteristic whimper as the bright sunlight hit his eyes, falling to his knees as he held tight to his hand, but when he finally let it loose, only smooth, unmarred flesh was beneath his fingers - smoother than it had been in years, even his oldest scars disappearing. He shook his head, pushing himself up to his feet once more.

Glancing up, he squinted in the light, although that was disappearing too. Dark storm clouds rolled in, faster than seemed natural. He brought his eyes back to his surroundings as the first rain drop hit his face. He was in some sort of barren desert, but he could just make out a shack across the way, small and run down, but he supposed it would serve well enough to get him out of the rain as it now pelted his face. As soon as he thought about making his way toward it, he was there, and he furrowed his brow, but entered anyway.

He knew instantly, it was a mistake.

A dark pit formed in his stomach, something was wrong with this house. He turned to leave, choosing the rain over staying in the small building, but the wall behind him was smooth. The door was gone. He had no choice but to move further into the house. Sebastian steeled himself, and made his way down the hallway. The salty, rusty smell of blood hit his nose and he thought he might be sick, but on his steps went, and then she was there, on the ground in front of him, a dark red stain forming beneath her.

“Bella....” He whispered, eyes going wide. “Bella!” He screamed, running to her side, falling to his knees. He grabbed for his wand, but it slipped through his fingers. He looked down - his hands were covered in blood. Her blood. “No. No!” He had done this to her - he had let her down. He looked back at her face, but it wasn’t Bella anymore. He almost hadn’t noticed, they were so similar. But the lifeless eyes that were staring at him now were definitely not his ex girlfriends, but those of his current one. Ivy.

He reeled backwards, falling from the force of the realization. “No...” He whispered again, looking around for help. The house was gone - he was out in the rain again. But everywhere he looked, her cold, dead eyes stared back at him. Hundreds of her, lying there, in a sea of blood. He had failed her, he had failed them both. He was drowning, screaming out for help, but no one was there to hear him. “Sebastian.” His name was like a whisper, mocking him, and he looked wildly around himself, begging whatever God might be above them to help him. But no one was there to help him, no one was coming, he was alone. “Ivy!” He screamed, and then a hand landed flat on his shoulder.

He jolted awake, slapping the hand off of his arm instinctively. He was covered in a cold sweat, visibly shaking, and he felt like he might throw up. Sebastian was sitting straight up, the blankets pooled and twisted around his legs, and he wondered how they had gotten that way. He blinked away the last remnants of the nightmare, looking around, trying to regain his bearings. Ivy was sitting up next to him, concern written plainly across her features. He stared at her for a long moment, willing his heart to stop beating quite so erratically, before running a hand through his hair. Licking his lips, he averted his gaze, staring at where his hands were balled in the blankets. He loosened them, patting the wrinkles he’d made. He didn’t know what to say. “Sorry, I didn’t mean to wake you.”
