setting : sitting by the fire status : closed starter for @knewitalls
it's quieted somewhat, with most of the party having moved further down the beach for a game of volleyball or into the house for shots, gossip, and hookups. kiri isn't particularly interested in any of those things, so she finds herself somewhere in the middle, seated by the bonfire in a deep green folding chair she's leaned halfway off the ground, her long legs stretched out before her to maintain balance. in her hands is her fifteen year old dsi, it's baby pink halves barely held together by a stubborn jerry-rigging of tape, rubber bands, and pure spite. her brow pinches as she stares at it, jaw working as she inputs what feels like her hundredth guess for her hundredth hour spent on this stupid puzzle she's been stuck on since getting here. at this point she just wants to progress, but she's too stubborn to look up the answer on her phone. that would feel too much like losing.
as another big red x appears to squash her dreams and laugh in her face, kiri swears beneath her breath and swings her eyes up to look around the area, finally landing on one william finch. it's surprising to see him here—for a multitude of reasons—but she feels no need to draw attention to that ( if she had to guess, he's probably gotten enough of it tonight already ). instead, she asks, ❝ you any good at puzzle games ? ❞
