With limited staffing, Baz found himself doing quite a lot of the work around the fitness center as of late. That included signing people up for a membership. Typically, he didn’t ask any questions, nor have any concerns about newer patrons. After all, they were simply giving him more money to line his pockets. This one, though... This person felt different. The djinn found himself staring at her incredulously, pen and paper in his hand. There was something about her, he couldn’t quite place it but, wow, it was powerful. “I’m sorry,” he said, shaking his head. “Been a long day. Sorry ‘bout the ol’ scribe material, I like to keep physical copies in case the system goes a bit wonky.” He offered a kind smile, all the while noting his suspicions. “Can I get your name, love?”

tw: death, grief
Summer's hands were still submerged in the soapy dishwater as her phone began to ring, the sound of her sister's laughter filling the walls of their worn out trailer home. It had been a quiet evening, but a much-needed reprieve from the busy work week, and there was truly no other person she would have wanted to spend her free time with.
"Ah, fuck," the woman muttered, already annoyed by the interruption as she reached for a nearby dishtowel to dry her hands. "One sec." As Summer reached for her phone, her eyes scanned the caller ID with confusion. It was the hospital. But who or what could that mean? As her mind jumped to conclusions about Will or Maverick being injured, she held it to her ear, Summer's voice sounding both puzzled and concerned as she spoke into the receiver.
But it wasn't long before she had her answers. At the doctor's news, she could feel her heart sink, every bit of air escaping her lungs as she listened to the woman speak. It was difficult to process what should have been life-altering news. Knowing that the information she would soon relay to her sister didn't affect their lives, and yet it would devour every lasting hope that things could change. She had mourned the loss of her father long ago. Or rather, longed for what never was. And yet, as she ended the call, the blonde's voice cracked with the same fragility that it had once held as a child.
"That was the hospital... It's Dad. He's gone."
