frustrated eyes scan the page before him once more, and he still can’t find the error, the thing that’s making this page just not fit right. maybe it’s because he’s been looking at it for so long, or maybe because he jsut doesn’t like the idea for this novel in general. too many possibilities of why it’s so off to him are running through his head and he knows this is going to be impossible without some sort of second opinion. second opinions are hard for him, considering how picky he is with who reads his writing and who he trusts to critique it rather than just say that it’s great and how much they love it. he needs honesty to improve on himself, even if it stings just a little bit to sometimes hear that his writing isn’t as great as he’d assumed it was in a writing sample.
who did he trust to do all of this? zebby. she had always been his greatest critic and to this day, she hasn’t failed him. she has always been honest about whether or not she loves a chapter or plot idea. and even if she loves it, she won’t hesitate to tell him if there’s something just a little off. it helps that they’re roommates and that most of the time, whenever he needs her help, she’s there for him. despite how much she says he helps her, he refuses to think anything other than that she’s doing all the helping.
gray reluctantly stands up from the hurricane that he calls his crumbled up ideas and failed chapters, leaving the comfort of his room to go searching for zebby. it doesn’t take long to find her, sitting on the couch watching a show intently. he feels bad bothering her despite her love for his writing, cautiously sitting down and almost hoping that she doesn’t see him, that she can keep watching her show without a care. “hey, want to help me with writer’s block?” he nudges her with a goofy smile, almost too hopeful for once that she’ll find what’s wrong with it.
