Technically, this entire mess was his fault. Lucas had no one to blame but himself, but he was sure as hell gonna try to find someone else to pin it on as he watched Sarah gravitate closer to Stonie once again. He frowned from across the yard, eyes narrowed against the glare of the heavy sun above as he pretended to listen to one of his neighbors blather on about his new car. Frankly, Lucas didn’t give a shit about horsepower when his wife was suddenly seeming so charmed and invested in their ‘new neighbor’ -- Was Sarah really that impressed with Stonie’s cooking or was she still trying to get tidbits of gossip for her fellow bored housewives? With a lift of his half-full beer and muttered excuse, Lucas abandoned the grill and headed for the pair of women, fulling intending to put them back on opposite sides of the cookout again.
The brunet forced a smile, doing his best to not wince as he picked up on his wife’s peppy voice enthusing about hot yoga. “I can’t convince Luke to go with me, though, not even during the sessions for couples --” Lucas cut in with a chuckle, glancing from Sarah to his unknown mistress. “I really doubt Stonie wants to hear about that,” he offered, lifting his beer bottle to take a quick drink. He’d purposefully left space between himself and Sarah, but the oblivious blonde hardly missed a beat before she was curling her fingers into the fabric of his button-up flannel and tugging him close until she was fit against his side. “You’d never believe it,” she started again, “but Lucas is incredibly shy and so stubborn.” Sarah was laughing and suddenly, Lucas wondered how much of a faux pas it’d be to shoot himself in the foot to get out of this entire situation. Forced smile still stuck in place, he didn’t let his gaze stray from Stonie, even as his arm settled across his wife’s shoulders.
