CryBabyHouse FTP TEST - Final Minute
Magic is real. So inspired by the efforts in house today, I feel like I need to go sleep for 15 hours.
Went to a Pedal Hard center to do a Functional Power Test prior to doing some training there. Then I realized...
I've seen this episode of Black Mirror. This does not turn out well...

I'm suspect your fail would be a win for many. I've always found power tests too demoralizing, even scaled for age & gender. Even slow rides are hard right now - my asthma has been playing up & I barely budged the spirometer today
Agreed, my power numbers would have been seen as a win for some people out there. As for comparison's sake I only really judge my performance against my previous performance. Sometimes it's neat to see what others can do but the real goal is to improve upon myself so their numbers are simply interesting to see. Sorry to hear about the asthma, I hope the slow rides are still enjoyable, after all that is the real reason for throwing a leg over the thing.
Routine
Things are starting to become routine. I'm on my 3rd day of 4:55am wake ups, 5:30 workouts, 9-2:45 teaching days and 9:30pm bedtimes. So far, we're holding up pretty well. I did actually get to bed closer to 10:30 last night, so I'm dragging a little bit more today. This morning, I joined the group on the computrainers to ride. They were all testing, I was instructed not to test because my hamstring is still not 100%. I've noticed, for a couple days at least, I seem to be pain free, so much so that I forget I have a pull & may attempt to do something & THEN I recall not to do that. I no longer have the small limp I had for at least the first 4-5 weeks after the pull. I was OK with just riding a decently hard effort and getting in a sweat. I just enjoy riding with others. We have a few laughs and can motivate each other. One of the newer members was seated next to me in the line up. He had only tested once before to know his starting point. I gave him some strategies to help him out. I instructed him to slowly build and look for points in the workout to look up & aim to raise the number. For the last 3 minutes, the effort should be almost anaerobic-panting, grunting, profusely sweating. The guy on the other side of me, easily our strongest cyclist, asked me to repeat what I had said. I told him my strategy and the guy next to him, caught the tail end & asked. I said "Listen, I'm going to start charging for my strategies now!" One of those funny little moments the 4 of us had :) I counted out when there were 10 minutes left, 5 and 3 to help alert everyone. I'm not sure what his initial number was, but he had a great test! Seems like most people went up at least a little bit. One guy came later, so he warmed up on the fluid trainer and then was able to test when we all got off. He was asked what station and I heard my name: "I want Michele's station…I had a better last time when we listened to something that was loud, angry, methodical, (other adjectives I don't recall)" It was really funny! The coaches joked about creating 'Michele' stations because of this! The guy next to me, tested with his iPod and he told me he had 2 Linkin Park songs on there to motivate him to work harder during the test! I've known I've been onto something with the music! :) Blarg…I've run out of time for my update. Time to scurry back & teach 2 more classes before I'm done here. As far as the classes, nothing really to note. I'm trying to learn there names, so far I think I've retained one. I'm remembering faces, though. I'll have to remember to write about a story the female 'coach' told me today that I learned from later, as well as make a list of the 'little things' I'm learning that I certainly could not have learned from a book.
