Nakajima Yoshiki's Fuburaji Ep. 323
Nakajima Yoshiki's solo radio show, Fuburaji (episode 323), aired on 3rd May 2025. A segment in his radio show called Manga Sommelier! Nakajima Yoshiki!, is where he receives submissions of random themes from listeners, and tries to recommend a suitable manga accordingly. In this episode, he talks about mature romance, and how to read shoujo manga as an adult.
Some notes prior to him talking about Pink Candy Kiss:
He's an avid reader of manga. Gathers around 100 volumes of manga per month. (Whether he reads all of it or not, however..)
He prefers reading tankobon instead of individual chapters serialised in magazines.
When a listener complained how frustrating it was to read shoujo manga as an adult, he advised that it is better to read it from an 'omniscient point-of-view', as he believes that shoujo manga (or any manga) should not be read in a way that is irritating to the reader.
He likes stories involving elements of adultery. "It'd be better if they just divorced one another though."
He recommends a few mature romance stories, such as "Womb Love" (J-Drama) and "Smoking Behind the Supermarket with You" (Manga) prior to mentioning PKC.
His summary of Pink Candy Kiss:
"There's one more (manga) titled Pink Candy Kiss. This one's a bit complicated. It's a same-sex romance. The protagonist is a woman, and she met a friend she had a crush on way back from either middle or high school again when they became adults. Upon their reunion, the friend is now married (to a guy), and runs a shop. The husband's super understanding of her, and he works hard for his wife (the friend) to help her run her own shop one day—so basically a nice married couple—but also somewhere, somewhat.. lacking. There's a scene in which the protagonist reminisces back to a moment where she saw her friend smiling in the same way she did in the past, and that's a point of realisation that she had fallen in love with her already back then. So on top of it being a same-sex romance, there's also the adultery element of it."
Nakajima Yoshiki’s live recording of his radio show, Fuburaji, took place on Sunday, December 9th, and was called “Supreme Commander’s Camp”!
His guests were Nishiyama Kotaro, Umehara Yuichiro, Kobayashi Yusuke and Takatsuka Tomohito!
