Scene N00b
So, I've got a few of you to submit your stories, and thank you so much for that. I will proceed to tell you my first experience at an ABQ show.

I don't really remember.
The first concert I ever went to was AFI in 2003 at the Sunshine. There were a few local shows after that while I was in high school.
I can tell you when I first booked a show.
It was some year between 2005 and 2007. It was an all local metal show at The Compound that made nearly $200. I booked my cousin's metal band as the opener, they were from Alamogordo. I don't remember all of the bands, but I know Eat A Helicopter played, and they had just been in a Battle of the Bands so they had just blown up in the scene before the show happened. That was a lucky stroke.
First time I booked an out of town band (not counting my cousin's band) was Hallowed Ground sometime between 2007 and 2008. I couldn't find a venue, so I forked out $300 to rent The Stove (an art gallery) and couldn't afford a PA. Then Phil and James A. were nice enough to lend me the use of their PA. Not many people showed up, but Hallowed Ground was amazing and I gained some new, awesome friends. It was through Vince, the singer, that I booked my first national touring band.
The first Albuquerque show I went to was the Big Spank's CD release at the Launchpad on June 20th, 2004. I still lived in Las Cruces and I drove up here for a weekend with my friends. S.S.S. (Suburban Shock Syndrome) and The Disclamiers also played. The next day I saw Danny Winn & the Earthlings, The Indecisives and The Disclamiers at Ballon Fiesta Park.
Daniel Carbajal is a frequenter of ABQ Shows and occasional promoter. You've probably seen him at shows at least ten times this summer alone.
Gilby Villa Plays Guitar
Gilby Villa has been a resident of Albuquerque since High School. Here's his FuckYeahABQShows tale:
"Ugh, mine is a pretty embarrassing one. Shortly after I moved to NM I was asked to join this "death metal" band called Vetalas. I was 16 or 17 at the time and was stoked because I was a new kid and I was asked to be in this band. Anyway, ou
r friends in Easier Said Than Done helped us get on a show at the Cell Theater. A metal band playing with pop punk bands, needless to say, we didn't get a good reaction at all... One of our guitarists couldn't make it so we had an empty sound, and worst of all, our singer thought he was Gene Simmons or something, so he wore face paint with his initials on his forehead. I'm really surprised we weren't laughed offstage that night... So that was the first ABQ show I've ever been to and played. Later on I wound up joining a band with the ESTD guitarist on vocals and it was free from embarrassment. Good times in Albuquerque."
Mine was at Bleeding Eardrum, first show with Emergency Ahead back in like August of 2008 or 09 or something, I can't even remember x)

Mackenzie Lee Walters (local promoter)
FWIW, I once got shoved into a bald girl at a Bad Religion show at the SUB Ballroom, accidentally knocking her out with a headbutt. Turns out the guy who shoved me eventually became one of my quizzers.I know it's not a local band, but it was the first show I ever attended on my own, and a weird enough story that I felt obliged to share.
