[ACOWAR SPOILERS] Can we discuss the "I'm getting her back" Az scene?! PLEEEEEASE?! Because Mr. Shadowsinger was not going to take no for an answer. He didn't waiver. He simple declared that he was going to get her back and like—FML. And then Elain's first words to him were the oh-so-iconic "you came for me." WHY IS MAAS HURTING MY HEART LIKE THIS. LETTING AZ SLOWLY WORK HIS WAY INTO ELAIN'S HEART VIA BONDS OF FRIENDSHIP/SEEING HER AND KNOWING WHAT SHE NEEDS.

[Also SPOILERS] I LOVED THAT LINE. And despite how hard I ship Elriel, which I of course do, that line just struck me so hard because it was a reminder of how beautifully loyal Az is. He and Cas both (and Rhys too of course) really exemplified just how GOOD and DECENT they are in ACOWAR. There was no option for Az NOT to go get her. And caring about her only made that inevitably more intense for him and I JUST ADORE HIM MORE THAN LIFE ITSELF OKAY AND ELAIN’S SHOCK MADE MY HEART EXPLODE

What do you think Azriel would do it Slain got hurt??? Or worse, if Elain got hurt defending HIM? I'm weak for the trope of the physically weaker person defending the physically stronger.

Elain getting hurt defending Az would WRECKKKKK him. But Az is one of those warriors that is calm in even the most intense pressure situations. He knows deep down that if he freaks out or panics (even if that’s his first gut reaction), he won’t be helping anything. So he stays calm, he DESTROYS whoever hurt her, picks her up and flies or winnows her away to safety as fast as he can. Only - ONLY when he is 100% positive that she is okay and there is no more urgency concerning the situation does he allow himself to be overcome with emotion. To grab her hand tightly and press his lips to her knuckles and pull her tightly to him, breathing in her scent and whispering in her ear that he’s so sorry he let her down (even if he didn’t) and he’s so thankful she’s in his life and he never wants to be that fearful for her life ever again.

Why is everything in Azriel's past so fucking sad???? Why can't he just be happy????? He's so pure?????? He deserves the world and more?????? And not this bullshit?????

Because he’s a 500 year old Spymaster whose job it is to do a bunch of really shitty missions and also life is hard and as much as I adore him he’s also a glutton for punishment because he thinks he deserves it??? Don’t get me wrong friend, I want Azriel to have the WORLD. But he’s had a shitty life and done a lot of fucked up things. And I also write sad shit because angst is my life?? (Also side note, I didn’t think the last chapter with Ana was that sad… it was pretty happy if I’m being honest. He had a great friend and a great lover and they parted on good terms still friends… like he smiled and laughed a lot in that one and it had a good ending?)

Feelings on Elriel?

I love Elriel, y'all know this. If I were to choose Azriel to be with someone in canon, it’s Elain. Literally she’s the only canon person I actively ship him with. HOWEVER, it’s not my “OH MY GOSH THEY HAVE TO BE TOGETHER OR I’LL DIE” ship. I just think it’d be cute. I’m SUPER CONTENT with them finding other people or remaining single. But Elriel > Elucien always.
