Top 5 Movies

Now this is a particularly cruel meme for me because finding my top 5 movies watched in one week is difficult, my top choices in a decade is really tricky let alone a whole lifetime. So I’m just going to name the first 5 10 (I was tagged twice, so why not?) that come to mind.

1.       Star Wars trilogy – I’m going for all three because from the time we saw Return of the Jedi in 1983 at the Dominian, and we acquired/bought the box set (I have 3 versions so I won’t choose between them), we have always watched all three of them in one go

2.       Pride & Prejudice – the Greer Garson/Laurence Olivier version – although I just love to watch any version of this story, this one was the THE ONE that captured my heart first

3.       Monty Python’s Life of Brian – always voted Britain’s favourite comedy film for a very good reason

4.       Blithe Spirit – how can you not adore Margaret Rutherford?

5.       Stalag 17 – my favourite war film out of a genre I generally hate

6.       Kiss Me Kate – they should do a Tatennant version of this

7.       High Heels and Low Life’s – one of many funny British gangster films, and a guilty pleasure

8.       Gregory’s Girl – teen angst is obviously better when Scottish

9.       Four Weddings and a Funeral – I might have OD’d on this during the 90s, and am now Hugh Grant trash

1. Do you have any pets?: Nope never have. 2. Are you the sort of person that gives other people nicknames?: Not really, but I do call my fiance by his childhood nickname. 3. Do you believe in anything supernatural?: Nope. 4. Pet peeves?: People who chew loudly, dramatic bitches who won’t take responsibility for their actions, and bad business practices. 5. What is hanging on the walls of your bedroom?: Nothing. 6. City or country? Why?: City, please! Country scares me, too quiet. 7. If you could spend the day with any celebrity, who would it be?: It’d have to be Catherine, wouldn’t it? Maybe also David, them together. I’d also love to spend a day with Stephen Fry or David Walliams. 8. Are you a glass half-full or half-empty person?: Depends on the day. 9. Who are your favorite artists?: Artemisia Gentileschi comes to mind. 10. Do you enjoy any sports, watching and/or playing them?: I watch a lot of sports incidentally, since I am living with a man, but I particularly like baseball and swimming. 11. Describe your best friend.: I’m gonna marry him. He’s Jamaican, tall and skinny (built like David Tennant, tbh), and keeps me on the straight and narrow every day. I love him dearly and can’t imagine my life without him.

1. Do you have any pets?

Sadly no, but I’d love one. We used to have budgies and a dog, many years ago.

2. Are you the sort of person that gives other people nicknames?

Not intentionally. I always start by using the person’s actual name, then hubby goes “Who?”, so I have to include a describer. In the end I just say something like “her that can’t act”, “across the road”, “him that’s the waste of space“ or “up by Tesco’s” to differentiate.

3. Do you believe in anything supernatural?

Yes. My mother instilled within me that there was something beyond death, we had an Ouija board for years, I used to accompany her to psychics and I’ve seen things that aren’t easy to describe. I also know that certain frequencies can induce such experiences, as can the way buildings are laid out; so I’m more than willing to accept a scientific explanation for something. But I see no harm in accepting that there is more to life than the things we can see, whether that means tuning into more pagan aspects of my culture or not.

4. Pet peeves?

People smoking and leaving their detritus everywhere is my main one, physically doing Christmas shopping, gratuitous sex scenes in the media that try to dismiss it as men needing eye candy, bad acting, neighbours who play their music far too loud, same neighbours who also feel a need to scream at their children to shut up (cos we all know that works… not), and any behaviour that isn’t respectful towards other people.

5. What is hanging on the walls of your bedroom?

Oh, this is shaming… a three picture framed photo presentation of DT as the Tenth Doctor, several postcard sized collages of photos of DT in various roles, a calendar containing (you guessed it) images of DT from each role, and a cardboard cut-out of DT as the Tenth Doctor that is half life-size.  In my defence, all of these images were gifts. I used to have a beach scene, a watercolour of the steeple of the University of Glasgow, Kelvingrove, and another watercolour of two Scotsmen in kilts on the wall; but they fell down and not been replaced since I expect to move very soon.  

6. City or country? Why?

I’ve always lived in an urban situation, although where I live now is only a couple of minutes away from open countryside despite my nearness to everything a city can offer. Soon I’ll be living in a village, so I’ll let you know which one I prefer.

7. If you could spend the day with any celebrity, who would it be?

Probably Catherine Tate. I admire her enormously, know that she is very shy so it would take a while to get comfortable with me around, and I’d love to quiz her about her work.

8. Are you a glass half-full or half-empty person?

Hmm. My natural tendency is to say that the glass contains half the amount of liquid possible; but I’ve been working for years on a Pollyanna personality/attitude. It’s hard work, but I feel much better for it.

9. Who are your favourite artists?

I love all sorts of artistic works. I’m not sure if this means art, music, media, or dance. If we’re talking art then I’m rather fond of William Turner, Alexander Miller, Beryl Cook, Alphonse Mucha, Andrew Wyeth, Mairi Hedderwick, and John William Waterhouse.

10. Do you enjoy any sports, watching and/or playing them?

I used to think I hated watching sports, because I was forced to watch football, rugby, wrestling horse racing, tennis and cricket. But thanks to alternate channels’  experiments, I’ve found that I love some motorsports, sailing, snooker, women’s football, cycling, swimming, and many other non-mainstream sports. As for playing sports…. Pft! Nope, that doesn’t happen anymore, and rarely did before that. As a ‘plus-size’ person, I was always mocked for trying any sport. 

11. Describe your best friend.

Well, my best friend is very sleek, he’s (I say ‘he’ because of the name hubby gives him)… oh, you mean real best friend and not my laptop?!! I suppose I’ve got to opt for hubby in that case. He is taller than me, older, my means of support and leading pain the neck. ;)

The Shipping Challenge!

Your first ship: this will make all of you go “Who?!” but it was probably Daphne/Roland from Moody and Pegg. The basis of it was that they were forced to be flatmates. Here is a brief clip of the comedy drama. 

Your latest ship: hmm, working out exact dates is tricky; but let’s just say that if it isn’t Hardy/Miller then it is a Tatennant crossover ship with characters who will never have screen time.

The ship that suits best for High School AUs: I’ve been set a High School AU fanfic challenge to write with Ten/Donna (by my son, would you believe? He wants it all 90s stereotypes) and I’ve read most of the High School AUs posted here on tumblr featuring Tatennant characters; but I can’t honestly say that I would have thought about it otherwise. I live in an adult world from the other side of the fence (and pond).

The ship that goes best with soulmates fics: Ten/Donna.

The best ship for fluff fics: Ten/Donna.

The best ship for smut: Ten/Donna or Donna/Peter Vincent (nooooo, I’m not pimping out that fic at all!! Nuh uh!).

The ship you’ve read the most fics about: Ten/Donna. You should have spotted a pattern by now.

A ship you wish you’ve read about but never got the chance: I can’t honestly think of any. Normally if I like a rare ship I then write myself some fanfic for it.

A ship you have a bad experience reading: Ten2/Rose, back in the early days of rare fics that even had Donna as a side character. What?!! I was desperate for anything that featured Donna, so I ventured onto Teaspoon, like you do. Eugh!! But it did lead me towards authors who posted on LiveJournal, so it’s not all bad.
