Hello my Lady! May I make a request for a King canon? I'm hitting 40yo tomorrow and I miss him :(. Old, fat and cuddly-ish King with glasses please. And I'm blaming you for my new interest in Chris Evans. I've seen a bunch of gifs of him laughing and grabbing his left boob and all I can think of is Cade with his plaid thermos laughing at Andy being chased by the dog from Hel, or any reason really. I don't think he needs one to laugh... Anyway, love you! Have a good rest of the week 😁
Oh you’re in luck, birthday girl :)
I don’t have it accessible at the moment, but there are multiple passages in the next McClary Chronicles book that reference the four main themes you mentioned: 1) King is in his mid 40′s at the start of the book and in his 50′s at the end, 2) he’s a bit soft around the middle from his deep years-long appreciation of Molly’s baking skills, 3) he’s much less averse to touch and doesn’t mind sprawling out on the floor in front of the fireplace with Molly using him as a pillow, and 4) somewhere along the line Molly realized he couldn’t see very well and pestered him into getting glasses, and the only kind he could stand to wear are the little round ones with very thin wire frames, which make him look like an archaeology professor on a permanent bender.
So yeah, all those things are canon...semi-cuddly old sometimes-bespectacled King (he might still growl threateningly but he won’t throw you out of the cabin for sliding your arms around his slightly soft middle anymore). And lets not forget that during the timeframe of the book his kids are between the ages of 10-20, so he’s got the trying-to-figure-this-shit-out papa bear thing going on too. He’s got a son with Molly’s mouth and a good chunk of her loud personality mixed with his own wild uncontrollableness, and Molly refuses to allow him to hand the parenting over to her. He’s got a daughter that he’s been an active father to for nearly a decade and if King’s capable of *adoring* anyone, it’s Ella - and he’s been known to go all gooey for her. AND he’s no longer the scary reclusive cryptid who lives alone up on the hill...he’s still a bit scary I guess, absolutely intimidating, but then you see Molly throwing rocks at him because he’s ignoring her and you realize that he was never un-tameable...there was just nobody until her who could figure out how to tame him.
Not that Molly ever actually tamed him...maybe gentled him just a bit.
And now second topic: Chris Evans?? Okay yes, I can appreciate him, he definitely has some charms and I do like him a lot. He doesn’t do anything for me in the knicker region, but I’d love to be friends with the guy and he grows a perfect beard, which you have to admire. I liked him enough to write a character for him, and Cade’s actually got a scene in the next chapter that doesn’t involve him antagonizing Creeley or giggling like an easily amused idiot or ducking flying pencils. So stay tuned for that I guess :)
