Congrats on your weightloss progress! Any advice for other people trying to lose weight? Coz man im hitting a wall. Anyhoo miss your arts.
For advice, uhh heck. I’m on a pretty rigid and specific diet (high protein and fat, extremely low carb) so I can’t give a whole ton of generic advice without bringing my eating habits and the science mumbo jumbo behind that into it (tl;dr it makes your body burn fat as fuel instead of carbs). But I guess here’s some generic How To Eat Food advice.
Corn food is an insidious bastard. One of my original weight loss attempts (which was successful!) involved doing little more than cutting out any food that contained the word ‘corn’ in the ingredients. Corn syrup, corn starch, corn meal, whatever.
“Low fat” doesn’t mean “healthy”. Neither do buzzwords like non-GMO, organic, blah blah. “Gluten free” only means “healthy” if you have an intolerance. Look at ingredients and the nutrition facts and see if they line up with what you want to put in yourself.
Outside of some specific things like canned tuna, condiments/spices, etc. you should try to avoid the middle aisles of the grocery store as much as you can. The outer ring of the store (produce, meat, deli, dairy) is where you’ll find the Good Shit.
This is getting a bit specific to my own diet but just... sugar and grain, man. It’s what did me in. Try to limit that stuff, even “whole grains”. Life without bread and juice has been difficult but I’m also 50lbs lighter for it.
*A lot of roadblocks for eating habits come from expenses-- a 6 pack of chicken breasts isn’t expensive, but ramen is cheaper. I’m not qualified for pennies-tight budget advice; most of what I know is from the perspective of someone who can afford to buy a loaf of bread, box of cheezits, and box of easymac to get through the week. AKA a $15-25/wk food budget.
Nuts are super filling. When I’m peckish I have a couple handfuls of peanuts instead of like, the whole fucking wrapper’s worth of saltines I used to.
Berries are a fantastic candy substitute.
Stevia! Granulated stevia is fucking disgusting imo. Liquid stevia is kind of expensive but a bottle will last a while and is actually really good (and comes in a bazillion different flavors), so use it to give stuff a sweet flavor. Cinnamon stevia + chai = heaven. Put that shit in your coffee, put it in club soda to make flavored bubble drinks, just abuse it. Put it in your water. Live a little.
And like I guess just keep it in mind that health is the big factor and if you eat the right kind of food at the right amount of calories, your body will do what it’s able and for some people that’s a lot easier. I’m lucky-- all of my weight gain was entirely from eating garbage food and no other health issues, so that’s all I had to change.
Oh also: do squats. I don’t do a lot of exercise but my leggies are powerful now.
Also also: I miss my art too. What happened.
