Have u noticed that lots of people do not appreciate the cognitive functional stack they have? I've seen some people complaining about their first four cognitive functions and wanting other people's cognitive functions for a better life and future for themselves. People seem to question the benefit of their cognitive functions. Have u ever wished you had a different functional stack than the functional stack of an ENTP? Who would you tell others to overcome this problem?
I think when people get like that it comes from misunderstanding how functions work and how the combination of the stack works. As humans, we all use every function. Many hate on Te, but if we didn’t have bare bones Te we wouldn’t be able to function. If we use looking up a topic in the index of a book, Te is assuming that we all agree that it will be in alphabetical order and finding the topic based on that assumption. We wouldn’t use Fi to feel our way around the book hoping our gut brings us to the right page of the book (some may, but most won’t). So we use all the functions.
I do reject the whole mirror functions, etc. I think the four functions in our stack are what determine our type and are the most important to focus on. The others are details that can over complicate a rather simple personality tool and misdirect a lot of people.
What wanting another personality’s functions tells me is that people are either not healthy (functionally speaking) and/or they are in an environment in which they feel their perspective and judgments are undervalued and feel a need to conform to their environment rather than find a way for their way to work. An INFP who is struggling to find their place in society, like finding a career, may wish they were an STJ who seem like they have that kind of stuff on lock. This comes from their own personality struggle.
Once we find how our functions work and how they operate within the stack (we don’t want a balance), we should become quite comfortable in our own functions and find our own way of doing things.
I don’t wish to have a different functional stack. Cause that isn’t who I am.
My advice: Find out why you are feeling this way. Do you feel outside pressures? Are you not in a place where you feel you can be your best and yourself? Are you trying to conform to another way of doing things? MBTI teaches us there is no one right way to do something. The different types give us numerous ways to perceive and approach things. Embrace that. Embrace your way.
