On Saturday night a group called Functionally Literate put on a literary function. It was held at the Shakespeare Festival and the atmosphere was exquisite. The local bookstore Bookmark It! was selling the books by Jeff Vandermeer. I was excited because they were selling the new bind up of The Southern Reach Trilogy. It is a lovely edition and they were able to sell it early. Now I had been hearing a lot about this trilogy and was interested to hear what the author had to say. So he spoke to us about some of his inspiration and read a piece from one of the books. He was very funny and entertaining. If you ever have a chance to see him talk I would do it. Then we had a Q&A session which was very interesting, followed by the book signing. The second author at the event was Usman Tanveer Malik. He read one of his pieces first and he was brilliant. He is only published online, from what I understood. But I am looking forward to a novel or collection of short stories from him. I can't wait to see what he released and comes out with. I can't wait for the next event Functionally Literate puts on!
