Story in caption. Week 07 - Blue Milk cap (#funguary week 2)
This hidden valley of myconids is so amazing. Yesterday I came upon a giant, awakened mushroom of the most amazing blue color. Like many other myconids, these fungal creatures live in close symbiosis with the surrounding trees. But while many fungi here employ awakened trees to roam the valley and defend themselves, the ‘blue milk cap’ fungi remain immobile. Instead, they adopt a certain race of local fairies. Even when just marginally damaged, this fungus will ooze blue milk that irresistibly attracts these fairies. The milk has a mildly intoxicating and highly addictive effect on them. Once addicted, the fairies rarely leave that mushroom ever again. Instead, they live a euphoric life inside the pores of the spongy myconid and fiercely safeguard it against any other beast. By keeping their territory free of all other mushrooms, they establish for their home exclusive access to trees and nutrients. This enables the blue milk caps to grow to astounding proportions, enticing and nurturing even more fairies.
