Fungus Weevil (Genus Eurymycter), taken May 20, 2026, in Georgia, US

A fairly small fungus weevil chowing down on a delicious patch of crust fungus! This guy totally has a horse face... And, similar to a horse, he uses it to graze on fungus growing on dead wood. The view isn't very good in this photo, but if you look at him head-on, you'll see that he has a gnarly pair of chompers on the end of his snout, perfect for cutting and processing tough, chewy fungi! I scoured the rest of these fallen trees for more weevils to no avail, but I was happy to have found this one. He just gets all the fungus to himself!

i was so tired that evening, but i really wanted to draw something, so i asked the corb server for some weird animal suggestions. they do not disappoint! i have more in a list that i'll draw next time i wanna tackle some funky critters

If you ever feel stupid for doing something in a public place just think of me frantically circling the road sign pole at the local supermarket's parking lot, trying to take a picture of a weevil.

This little guy is (probably) Platystomos albinus.
