The Floozies Bring Their Traveling Dance Party to Webster Hall Thursday
The Floozies’ Matt Hill (guitar) and Mark Hill (drums) don’t just share parents—they also share a love of electronic music, funk and grooves. The two make upbeat, energetic music with good-times vibes that moves people to the dance floor, making the Lawrence, Kan., duo a fixture on the festival circuit. Despite their live shows featuring smoke and lasers and a party atmosphere, the Floozies still win over fans with their recorded catalog, including 2013’s Tell Your Mother (stream it here)—“a bona fide digitized dance party that you don’t want to miss,” per Live for Live Music—2015’s Do Your Thing (stream it here)—“The 11-track album is about as groovy as it comes, overflowing with booty-shaking music that vibrates the speakers,” says Ecstatic Magnolia—and 2017’s Funk Jesus (stream it here)—“just as fun as you’d expect from the duo that can’t ever seem to stop smiling,” reports Funktopia. Now back out on the road, the Floozies’ March tour lands in the East Village for a headlining appearance at Webster Hall on Thursday night. Boulder, Colo., electronic-funk trio SunSquabi and Calgary, Alta., funk-hop musician Defunk open.
