The Burger Scene (Comedy excerpt from my book, "Blood Tournaments.")
With the bright red numbers counting down, Titus says, “You know, I would kill for a double bacon cheeseburger, dude.”
I turn to scold him, but Gwen adds, “Now that you mention it, I would, too.”
John and Adam laugh a bit as Adam joins in, “And a shake with that burger!”
Her head in her hands, Jasmine mumbles, “Americans...”
Beth shakes her head and says, “I literally don’t have any sort of idea as to what you Americans are talking about. Besides, it’s all about-”
“Guys,” I shout, “Now’s kinda not the time for this, don’t you think?”
I turn back to the door and watch the numbers again. There’s an awkward silence before William says quietly, “I’d love to try out this ‘burger’ you guys are talking about.”
I turn around sharply and say, “Ugh, fine! If we all manage to get food off our minds and actually focus on living, then after this fight, we’ll get burgers. Okay?”
