Idk who needs to hear this but you don't need some sophisticated reason to like extreme cinema. Sometimes you like what you like. Yes even the low budget, all-gore-no-plot movies. You simply like it because of shock value and gore? cool. You do you. I'll personally always prefer extreme cinema with more "substance" but everyone's different.
That's where i don't agree with the message of Funny Games: enjoy what you enjoy. It's ok for movies to be all blood and gore and disgusting stuff and nothing more. Not all art needs to be activism or some political/philosophical scream. I haven't watched the movie, and yet, by what i know so far, it sounds preachy and moralistic, it sounds like it was done by an anti-fiction puritan who can't accept the fact people can separate a movie from reality and might actually just... enjoy violence? because you know it's fake...? so that's what makes it enjoyable...? it's literally art...?
