Any time I hear a notable noise, like a car honking, a tram ringing its bell, a dog barking, a timer beeping, I feel the need to repeat it back. Not usually imitating the noise, but just saying the word.

*Car honks*

Me: beep beep

*Dog barks*

Me: Woof woof

I can refrain if I concentrate, but usually it just slips out.

Do other people do this?

Do you feel the need to "reply" to random sounds by I'm imitating them or saying the onomatopoeic word?

I know I'm not completely alone in this, as my family also does it, and I sometimes hear others do it. For instance, when camping at a site that had a peacock nearby, every time it would call, I would hear someone in one of the tents imitating it! But I don't know how common it is.
