Ravenscrag, built for Sir Hugh Allan in 1863 (Photo credit: Wikipedia) The Saga continues… Although France and Scotland had joined forces under the Auld Alliance, the relationship between the French in Canada and Canadians of Scottish descent could not be as cordial as the bonds uniting France and Scotland. Fur Traders//Duke and Nala
It was exceedingly common for traders and sellers to set up shop in the centre of the town during the early summer days. The Duke knew that this was no exception from any other time of the year, and he also figured that this was the reason why the downtown area had been so filled with people.
He normally came here during this time to so what was for sale. There was interesting things from other parts of the world that showed up here, and he made sure to buy little trinkets to send to his family. Jewels or silk for his mother and guns and knives for his brother and step-father.
There were animals as well--caged little creatures for sale as pets. Exotic birds and felines. And there were the usual sheep, cattle, and horses for sale as well; their buyers wheeling deals and sellers trying to compromise.
Theodore moved through the crowd, taking in the sights and wondering what he could buy before his eyes landed on a cage--not so much the cage but what was inside the cage. It was a cub; a little thin shaking and scared. He gasped when he realized who it was.
Nala.
His monocle fell from his face, and he moved closer to look.
Yes, that was Nala.

Lest any reader should wonder where our heroine found materials for all the mending and repairing referred to, we may remark that the Indians in the wilderness were, Silver Lake and still are, supplied with needles, beads, cloth, powder and shot, guns, axes, and etc., by the adventurous fur-traders, who penetrate deep and far into the wilderness of North America; and when Nelly and Roy ran away from their captors they took care to carry with them an ample supply of such things as they might require in their flight.
