"[...] La révolution n'est pas finie, "the revolution is not over", is a reference to the words spoken by Robespierre on 30 September 1791, the last day of the Constituent Assembly, a day celebrated by the Feuillants as the conclusive moment of the Revolution.

Robespierre was right: the Revolution wasn't over in 1791, any more than it could have been in 94 in spite of Desmoulins' hopes and Thermidor. It couldn't even be over two hundred years later, in 1989, according to the revisionist historiography represented by François Furet.

Today, the Revolution isn't over both historically and historiographically wise [...] : not from a historical point of view, because there are still many unsolved problems that the revolutionaries have passed on to us, to the point that, if we want to besten our societies, we should go back and take a look at the numerous experiments attempted during the revolutionary decade, in order to find some new solutions for the future. It isn't over as far as historiography is concerned , because new themes are getting explored by fresh generations of historians in the whole world, who can give back to the Revolution all of its complexity and liveliness."
