Furrow bee (Halictus sp.) on stonecrop (Hylotelephium telephium). Such a wonderful shape these bees have. ~~~~~~~#halictus #furrowbee #stonecrop #pollinators https://www.instagram.com/p/BnaSag2niig/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=1ts167tj7gqr3
A lovely Lasioglossum striking that familiar upside-down curled pose. Little bees that get into tight places with their contortions. Seen here on a rose flower, a type of which native to Illinois that I found a bit challenging to identify. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~#lasioglossum #furrowbee #sweatbee #roseflower
Base-banded furrow bee (Lasioglossum sp.) on iceplant (Delosperma?). One of those very swell bees one finds about their garden on a sunny spring day. This here is a Halictus bee, or err...a “sweat” bee as us in North America call them. In a post a couple weeks ago I shared no shortage of disdain for that name. Fortunately since then I cracked open the Field Guide to the Bees of Great Britain and Ireland to find them labeled as “furrow” bees. Vastly better than sweat! Lovely! Better yet, the English invented English so I suppose their name is the correct name. So there, I will no longer use the name “sweat” bee. On Bee Safari they are now furrow bees. Yay bees. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~buzz~~~~~#halictus #furrowbee #bees #bugs #insects #macro #canonmacro #insects_of_our_world #mat_macro #kings_insects #found_on_flowers #macro_freaks #top_macro #macroclique #tgif_insects #macro_kings #photooftheday #beesofinstagram #pocket_insects #macro_brilliance #macro_perfection #top_macro #macro_highlight #macro_spotlight #electric_macro #igmw_macro
Base-banded furrow bee of the subgenus Dialictus, seen here on an ornamental onion (Allium sp.). These often abundant bees are abundantly overlooked due to their very tiny size. This female was fascinating to watch as she flew the few feet back and forth from her nest burrow to this flower for much of the day. ~~~~~~#furrowbee #sweatbee #dialictus #allium #pollinators
