Futaba's room is so cosy??? I love the "old granny in the woods" cottagecore theme she's got going on.

We saw parts of Futaba's room in Ch29, notably her bed and window space. This panel reveals the other half of the room: Lots of wooden furniture, needlework decorations, and supplies for knitting. Apparently Futaba knits! I wonder if she ever makes sweaters for her siblings (or maybe she just makes really simple things like potholders and coasters lmao). Did she ever try teaching Mutsumi? I love imagining Futaba sitting with Mutsumi and showing her how to knit and purl.

A 97 y/o masseuse!!! I love the concept of a huge burly bodyguard quitting their profession to become a chiropractor. She must love working on Futaba because she can go whole ham on her back without worrying about breaking her whole skeleton lmao.

Poor Futaba. She's the oldest daughter and the second oldest child, which automatically puts her in the position (along with Kyoichiro) of watching over their siblings and keeping them safe. But she could always handle it easily because she had her family to bolster her. Born with incredible strength, living happily with her loving family—she must have felt like nothing could ever hurt her. Maybe things would go wrong, maybe she would get knocked around sometimes, but it was nothing she couldn't bounce back from.

And then she lost her parents. And suddenly that illusion of safety vanished in a puff of smoke, as she realized that there were things in the world that really could hurt you. Badly. You could be the strongest, most powerful fighter on the planet, and it wouldn't stop your mother from dying. It wouldn't stop evil lunatics from targeting your baby sister or your older brother from slowly losing his mind. And now she was in charge of keeping them all safe, because her parents were no longer around to protect them.

No wonder she's afraid of ghosts. Some problems you can't punch your way out of, and ghosts and spectres are just a reminder of how powerless she really is.

HELLO???? That got dark quick, hot damn! Love the interpretation of the ogres as a rival clan who Momotaro has to defeat, even at the expense of his best friend's life.

And of course Futaba is into it ajhdskhjhdak.

Honestly valid reason for not liking ghosts! Futaba's strengths lie in physical combat, so intangible things like ghosts, spirits, evil curses, etc are inherently immune to her fighting style. If she can't fight it with her bare fists, how CAN she fight it? I also like the implication that she's totally fine with physical horror monsters (zombies, evil creatures, Jason Vorhees) because they're the things you can actually punch. Someone please draw Futaba beating the snot out of Jigsaw and the Scream guy.
