Akira stuffed the last of the clothes he didn’t want in a bag before sealing it up. He and Taiki had already gone through his wardrobe a few nights ago and he’d let his little brother raid whatever he wanted before gathering things up to take to donate. He thought it could make a good surprise outing too, though, dropping the bags by the door of the cafe before traipsing over to Sojiro’s- inside and up the stairs to knock on Taiki’s door.

“Come on, loser, we’re going shopping.” He waited by the door, knowing a response would take a moment. “I have to take my clothes in to donate but I wanted to go in to the thrift store after. If you come with I’ll buy you whatever clothes you want and a video game.” Akira Kurusu was not above many things, but bribery was likely in the top ten.

Taiki looks so small, curled in on himself in his desk chair. His knees are pulled to his chest, face buried in them, and arms holding it all together. Bad days are no stranger to him or Akira, and Akira watches quietly, letting the boy open up at his own pace. 

“No one does, not really.” A small shrug. “All you can do is your best, the goal isn’t having it all together, it’s being able to manage, and keep yourself above water.” 

He stretches out, back on the bed. It’ll be easier for both of them, he thinks, without having to look at each other. “You’re doing just fine, Tai, promise.” A small, fond smile curls over his lips.
