The Confession
//Ah, what could be better than this? A beautiful island, a great group of friends, and a handsome blue hedgehog I can call mine…// The pink hedgehog thought as she watched her friends playing on the beach while her head rested on the great Sonic’s shoulder. Her fingers were laced through his as they held hands, a happy smile on Amy’s face as she watched the sunset, listening to her friends’ giggles.
“Amy…” Sonic’s voice came softly in her ear.
She looked up at him, gazing into those beautiful emerald eyes, “Yes, Sonic?” she whispered gently, afraid to spoil the moment if she spoke to loudly.
He began to lean in, was he going to kiss her? Oh, to feel those warm lips on hers, it would be a dream come true. She started to lean in as well.
All of a sudden an awful sound began to come from Sonic’s mouth, a loud, obnoxious sound, like an alarm clock, confusing and terrifying the young hedgehog as she stared at her hero with wide eyes, before suddenly there was a bright light.
Amy sat up with a jolt as she awoke in her bed, tangled in her sheets as she heard the sound of her alarm clock blasting on the side table. Suddenly she grabbed the frustrating piece of technology and threw it against the wall on the opposite side of the room, sighing as it fell to the floor, now shattered beyond repair. That was the third this week. Stupid dreams. Stupid alarm clocks. Stupid mornings. The pink hedgehog stretched with a groan as she threw the blankets off and swung her legs off of the bed. She looked around, fixing the strap to her tank top, before slipping her feet into her house slippers and heading to the bathroom. Starting up the shower, she grabbed the toothpaste and her brush and turned on the radio. Dancing around as she got cleaned up, she went through the motions of the morning. When she was finished, she put on her clothes and made a quick bagel and strawberry cream cheese breakfast, before heading out of the house, locking it behind her as she headed into the village. She waved at her neighbors, fellow island dwellers as she headed towards a cute flower shop sitting in the center of the village.
She unlocked the door and went inside, finishing the last bite of her bagel as she set up the counter. Putting on her apron, she straightened a few things, before flipping on the ‘OPEN’ sign and propping open the door. She went back over to the counter and turned on the register as the first few costumers came in.
“Hello, ladies and gentlemen! Welcome to the ‘Roses are Red Flower Emporium’. We have a special Valentine’s Day sale today, all roses are twenty-five percent off, and bouquets can be delivered completely free, seeing as you do pay the immediate fee, of course.” Amy announced as the costumers looked at the flowers. Sitting on her stool, she took orders for bouquets and sold her flowers. Of course she didn’t sell just roses, but they were her highest sellers, especially around Valentine’s day, and Mother’s Day.
Suddenly a spiky blue head peeked into the door, “Hey Ames! I see you’re busy today!” Sonic strutted into the shop, his usual cocky swagger showing off as he wore his own work uniform. ‘Chuck’s Chili-Dogs’. He worked delivery for his uncle’s chili-dog restaurant, mostly part time, since the rest of the time he was busy with heroing.
“Of course I’m busy today, Sonic. Tomorrow is Valentine’s day, after all.” She laughed gently as she leaned on the counter after handling a purchase, “Aren’t you supposed to be at work?”
“I’m in the middle of a delivery, I figured I could stop by and see you. Have anything planned for tomorrow then?” He had completely forgotten that tomorrow was Valentine’s day, but he wasn’t about to tell her that.
Amy smiled as she helped out with more purchases, and helping clueless men buy flowers for their lovers, “I’ll probably have the shop open for last minute shoppers who forgot to buy things.”
Sonic played the fool, “What? Who would forget a day like Valentine’s day? Pfft.” He waved a hand, getting a look from Amy that made his cheeks turn slightly pink from his own embarrassment. Clearing his throat, he continued, “Well, that’s a shame anyway, ‘cause I was wondering…if maybe…you were free…you and I could…” he trailed off.
Amy shook has she handed another costumer their flowers, and she looked at him, feeling her tummy over flow with butterflies as she smiled at him calmly, “Could what? Don’t you have plans tomorrow?”
“Well, no…” Sonic fiddled with his hands, “I was thinking that you and I could…maybe…catch a movie…or something…Tails has some plans already, and Knuckles is taking Rouge out to dinner. So I was thinkin’…maybe you and I could…hang out…” he cleared his throat.
Amy smiled, acting nonchalant as she continued checking out costumers, “Sure. I think I could manage that. I’m closing the shop up at four tomorrow.”
“Okayseeyoutomorrowatfivebye!” Suddenly there was a blast of air and a blue blur and Sonic was gone. Amy watched the door with wide eyes, same with her costumers, before she looked at the mess he’d left by knocking some flowers off the shelf.
“Ah! No! My flowers!” she squealed and let out a powerful groan as she went to clean up everything.
“So, you finally asked Amy on a date?” Knuckles asked as he went through his closet of clothes, trying to find a nice suit and the right tie for tomorrow.
“Well, I wouldn’t call it a date, it’s more…two people spending time together…on Valentine’s Day…” Sonic rubbed his neck, glaring at the wall as he couldn’t figure out a way to defend himself, “And what do you mean ‘finally’?” he stressed the word.
Tails rolled his eyes as he carried boxes into the garage, “So what are you taking her to do?”
Sonic shrugged, leaning on the wall, “I was thinking a movie.”
“Oh please, that’s cheesy and over done. Do something original and romantic.” Knuckles waved a hand as he pulled out his black blazer, a white shirt, and a purple tie that matched his eyes.
The hedgehog groaned, “Well what do you think I should do? You aren’t exactly an expert in dates, either.” Sonic glared at the muscular echidna.
“As true as that may be, I think I know a little bit more about it than you do. At least I can admit when I’m taking a beautiful woman on a date.” Knuckles glared back.
“Alright, then what would you suggest I do?” The blue blur crossed his arms.
Knuckles put his planned outfit on a hanger and put it on the handle of his closet door, “What is something that Amy likes?”
Sonic thought to himself for a moment, “Well, she likes picnics. And long walks on the beach. And fancy finger foods. And watching the stars come out at night.” He thought about the beautiful way her eyes sparkled whenever she would ask them to watch meteor showers with her.
“There. Now you have a plan. Get to making it happen.” Knuckles pushed him into the kitchen.
Sonic stuck his tongue out at Knuckles with annoyance, “Fine, fine. But…could you guys help me out?” He looked at his two best friends with an almost pleading look.
Tails chuckled, “I think I have a recipe that Cream gave me for a tea party picnic, let me go get it.”
Knuckles put a large arm around Sonic’s shoulders, “You need an outfit. And yes, that means pants.”
The hero’s emerald eyes widened and he let out a groan.
The pink hedgehog paced back and forth on her living room floor as she waited for her best girl friends to show up so that they could help her with an outfit. She heard a knock on her door and threw open the door.
“Oh thank Chaos. Come on, you have to help me.” She let them in, Rouge and Cream.
“So Mister Sonic finally asked you on a date?” Cream clapped with a happy smile.
Amy blushed, “Well, it was kind of a surprise, really. But I could use some help picking out an outfit.”
Rouge chuckled, “What kind of date are we talking?”
“I don’t know. He said maybe a movie? But I don’t know. I don’t wanna be to formal, but I don’t wanna just be casual either.” The hedgehog laughed nervously.
Rouge and Cream looked at each other before the bat smirked, “I think we can work with that.”
Valentine’s day rolled around and Amy started her day the same way as she did before. She cleaned herself and got dressed and headed to work, her usual routine. She sold last minute flowers to those who forgot, or those children treating their mothers to special days, but she was distracted by her new found excitement for the events that were supposed to unfold that night.
As for the Blue Blur, he had taken the day off so that he could make sure he had everything he needed for the special date he had planned for him and his special girl. Well, she wasn’t his special girl just yet, at least, not to anyone but him. He walked by the flower shop, looking to see how she was doing, but not going in yet, that is until he saw a big wolf fellow swagger into the shop with a bundle of roses in his hand.
//No, he’s not…is he? He can’t be…// Sonic thought as he watched through a window, before he suddenly saw the wolf offer the roses to Amy, //Oh no you don’t.// he straightened up and grabbed one of the Camellias sitting in a bundle, then he sauntered into the shop.
Amy looked up from the bundle of roses, her cheeks turning the same shade as Knuckles’ fur, “S-Sonic! Hi!”
“Hey there, Ames. I stopped by to bring you your favorite, Camellias!” The blue hedgehog offered the bouquet to Amy, “I can’t wait for our date tonight.” He felt his cheeks pinch and heat up as he officially called it a date.
Amy giggled like a school girl, but before she could say anything, the wolf piped in.
“Excuse me, Mister Sonic, is it? But if you would be so kind as to leave, Miss Rose and I were in the middle of planning a real date. Something the likes of you wouldn’t be able to comprehend.” The wolf got between the two hedgehogs, a sneer on his face towards the hero.
“Just what is that supposed to mean? I’m just as capable of showing Amy a good time as anyone else on this island! In fact, I plan on showing her a very good time tonight!” Sonic blushed madly, his eyes widening at his words, and he looked at Amy, “Not like that!” he panicked, “I just mean that I’m going to make you feel very good tonight! No!” He freaked out and glared at the wolf, shouting emotionally, “Just leave my girl alone!!” Suddenly all that was left of Sonic in the shop was a dusty cloud in the shape of his body and a blue streak as he ran away.
Amy stood there with a fully crimson muzzle as she looked up at the wolf and smiled, a glow in her eyes, “If you’ll excuse me, I have to close up for the night. Please, have a nice night.” She waved the wolf away and shut the door behind him, before letting out a loud, ear piercing shriek of excitement.
~Five o’clock~
Amy stood by the window, shifting her weight between her feet as she watched for Sonic to show up. Her eyes flickered around, watching in every direction that she could see, wringing her hands and fiddling as she started to pace back and forth. With wedge heels, and a simple white sundress, she fixed and re-fixed her front quills over and over again, before jumping at the sound of the doorbell.
It’s time! She thought to herself, squealing internally and dancing a little, before calming herself externally and answering the door, “Hello, Sonic! I’m ready~!”
She was stopped short at the sight of her hero dressed in a pair of nice jeans with a black belt, a clean white button up shirt, and a black blazer; and he carried a picnic basket.
“Amy! You look absolutely beautiful.” He smiled at her, his emerald eyes sparkling as he held out his arm for her to take, “Shall we?” He looked calm and collected on the outside, but on the inside it was havoc. It was as though there were Mini Sonics running around screaming at the tops of their lungs.
“Oh, oh yes, lets go.” Amy smiled widely and slid her arm through his, “So? What’s the plan?”
Sonic blushed a little, “Well, I was thinking a stroll down the beach, then a picnic while the sun sets, and then we can stargaze until whenever you decide you’re tired of my company.” He smiled down at the lovely rose on his arm, She is breathtaking…He thought to himself.
The young hedgehog smiled, blush painting her cheeks softly, “Oh Sonic, I could never tire of your company.”
“Then it’s going to be a long night…” he smirked, “Not that I’m complaining.”
This is going better than I thought, they both thought in sync, though neither knew what the other was thinking.
She looks so happy, Sonic glanced at Amy, I’m so glad she’s enjoying herself.
Amy watched the ocean, a smile on her face as she saw the sun beginning to fall below the horizon, He’s been such a gentleman, I’m so glad he asked me out. This is so much better than sitting at home watching soap operas. She looked up at Sonic, her eyes sparkling with a different kind of joy than ever before, “Thank you.”
Sonic blinked and looked down at her, “W-what for?” He couldn’t look away, her eyes were too captivating in their glow.
“For this, all of this. You’ve been so wonderful.” She purred, sliding her hand into his.
“Oh, really? We haven’t even gotten to dinner yet!” He chuckled, smiling, “Of course, if I’m being honest, I didn’t make it. Tails got a recipe from Cream and helped put the whole thing together” he looked down at the basket, “Come on, we’re almost there.” He pulled her along and they found a nice little patch of grass just on the edge of the forest. They sat down on the picnic blanket while Sonic unloaded everything but the dessert, he was saving that for last.
The eighteen year old rose smiled, “That’s alright. Honestly, I just expected a movie and chili-dogs for our date.” She winked.
A chill went down the twenty-one year old hero jumped a little, “Really? I’m sorry…” He busied himself with the food, cute little finger sandwiches and bubbly apple cider.
She looked at him, concerned that she’d offended him, “Oh, Sonic, I’m just picking on you.” She stopped him, putting her hand on his, “I love this, I really do. I’m so happy. I can’t believe you thought of all this.”
“Well believe it,” he sat down and smiled at her, “because I was thinking of you the whole time.”
Amy blushed suddenly and she picked up one of the sandwiches, starting to eat so that she could hold down her squeaks.
Sonic smiled and ate quietly, watching her from the corner of his eye.
The pair ate in silence for a little while, before Sonic finally looked over at her, “Amy…”
She looked up at him, her eyes sparkling like the night sky as the stars began to blaze, the soft green swallowing him as he leaned in slowly, their lips becoming so tantalizingly close before Sonic’s eyes widened and he shrieked, jumping to his feet.
Amy blinked, “S-Sonic? A-are you alright?” she stood up and started to walk over to her date.
“Ants!” Sonic cried out as he reached down and started to undo his belt, “Ants in my pants!”
“W-what?! Uh—um—hold on!” Amy hurried over to Sonic’s side, and not knowing what else to do, she used her super strength and grabbed the edges of Sonic’s pants, tearing them off of him while also accidently pulling him into her, knocking them both into the grass.
They both lay there for a moment with wide eyes, before busting out laughing.
“Do you always tear off someone’s clothing on the first date?” Sonic looked down at her with a smile, chuckling.
Amy gasped, looking at him with wide eyes, “No! You jerk!” she tried to slap at him and he laughed, holding her down, “Did you even really have ants on you?!”
“Yes, yes I did! My legs hurt, I’m pretty sure I got bit…a lot!” He smiled down at her, calming, “You really are so beautiful…”
She stared up at him, her cheeks darkening. Sonic stared at her lips for a moment, before standing up and pulling her to her feet.
“Come on, let’s get you home. I got your pretty dress all stained from the grass.” He packed up the picnic and looked at Amy, smiling as he took her hand.
They walked in silence, but it wasn’t an uncomfortable silence, in fact, it was very easy to tell what they were both thinking. Words weren’t needed between them to express how they felt as their hands were wrapped tightly around each other.
Arriving at Amy’s door, Sonic stared down at their hands, a small smile on his face, “I guess this is goodnight.” He looked at her, a different look in his eyes than she’d ever seen before.
Her free hand reached up and cupped his face, “Only if you want it to be…”
He let out a soft chuckle and he leaned forward, “I don’t want it to be…” and their lips locked gently. Sonic released Amy’s hand, slipping his own around her waist, and dropping the basket so that he could hold her closer.
Her arms wrapped around his neck, eyes fluttering closed as one foot tilted slightly upwards.
The kiss lasted longer than they had expected, because when they parted, it was only to catch their breath.
Sonic smiled, pressing his forehead to hers, “I’ve got a confession to make…I’ve wanted to do that for a long time…”
Amy blushed a little, smiling, “I’ve wanted to do that for a lot longer than you have…” She pulled away reluctantly, “I…I should go to bed. I’ll…see you in the morning?”
Sonic smiled, “I’ll come by and visit you at the shop…I promise.”
He stroked her cheek gently, before watching her go inside, and he picked up his basket and headed him, a new skip in his step and a shine in his eyes, tomorrow was going to be a new day.
